Frostburg State University, Physical Plant Department, seeks applications for a full-time, non-exempt HVAC Mechanic I position. Hourly rate $25.45; Position includes the University of Maryland benefits package which includes annual leave, holidays, personal, and sick leave; tuition remission; excellent health and life insurance, and retirement plans.
Responsibilities: Under general supervision, install, service, and repair a variety of residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment. Mechanics at this level install and service residential and commercial heat pumps and industrial centralized air conditioning systems up to 100 tons. Systems may contain several zones.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Four years progressively responsible experience in the air conditioning/refrigeration trade. Must possess a valid non-commercial driver’s license. Successful completion of pre-employment physical examination. Employees assigned to work with CFC refrigerants must maintain valid certification in accordance with federal law.
Preferred Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, AHU's, DX units, etc.); pneumatic and DDC controls; air and water distribution systems (ductwork, fans, piping, pumps, etc.); and preventative maintenance requirements. Residential and commercial project layout experience. HVAC and/or related licensing (plumbing, stationary engineering, electrical, etc.). Good communication skills. Basic computer skills.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
