What is a Manager - Electric District Operations?

The Manager of Electric District Operations is responsible for the oversight of the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Electric Transmission and Distribution System. The Manager of Electric District Operations is required to be active in the supervision of the day-to-day activities of the division. This includes the formation of monthly and weekly work plans that are translated from respective budgets. The Manager of Electric Operations is expected to effectively manage the use of all Central Hudson line crews and contractor resources to respond to outage and restoration efforts and to ensure compliance with established PSC targets for system outage frequency and duration. This position could be in any of our operating districts.

What does a Manager – Electric District Operations do?

  • Acts as the Safety Champion for their respective division and ensures the highest level of safe work practices

  • Plans, schedules, coordinates, and provides general supervision for the construction, operation, and maintenance of a safe, economical, and reliable electric transmission and distribution system within an assigned operating division

  • Actively supervises the day–to-day activities of the division.  The expectation is that the Manager will spend approximately 70% of the time planning, supervising, and enhancing operations. 

  • Effectively manages the use of service workers, maintenance crews, and division resources to ensure that compliance with the established PSC targets is achieved for both frequency and duration of outages.  The reliability of the electric system is measured in terms of outage frequency (SAIFI) and duration (CAIDI). 

  • Investigates and resolves complaints, coordinates customer service needs with other departments as required, and ensures that customers are treated fairly and consistently

  • Communicates effectively with customers by phone, in writing, or in person regarding construction, operations, and maintenance

  • Sets clear and concise performance expectations, and effectively communicates them; sets the leadership example for the assigned division and is knowledgeable and prepared to implement the Electric Emergency and/or Gas Emergency response plans

  • Completes assigned reports, goals, objectives, and special assignments on schedule through the appropriate use of corporate assets and control of costs

  • Coordinates Capital and Expense Annual Work Plans with the respective budgets and translates into monthly and weekly plans 

  • Maintains a big picture vision and provides leadership to ensure that divisional objectives and results stay aligned with group and corporate objectives

  • Identifies and implements appropriate changes to existing processes that foster continuous improvement in productivity and development of individuals, work groups, and division performance

  • Provides leadership and direction within the district as emergent issues arise and brings facility and security related issues to the appropriate parties for resolution

  • Participates in the Company's emergency management processes and storm/emergency response; provides support during restoration efforts

What does it take to be a Manager – Electric District Operations?

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field and 5 years of power/utility engineering, electric line field work/supervision, electric transmission & distribution planning, utility field management, or related experience. In lieu of a bachelors, an associate’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, or related field and 7 years of power/utility engineering, electric line field work/supervision, electric transmission & distribution planning, utility field management, or related experience. In lieu of an associates, a High school diploma or equivalency degree and at least 10 years of power/utility engineering, electric line field work/supervision, electric transmission & distribution planning, utility field management or related experience.

  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; ability to learn new computer software programs quickly

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management and union personnel

  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and circumstances

  • Ability to simultaneously manage a variety of projects/assignments and meet deadlines

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related technical field

  • Experience supervising, directing others work and/or overseeing field work

Pay Range: $126,500-$196,100
