About Us

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.

Description of Work

This position is expected to be available on September 1, 2026. *

This position provides regional Career and Technical Education (CTE) coordination, support, and services for PSU CTE personnel (administrators, support staff, and teachers) in the districts assigned. Duties include facilitating the implementation of the CTE Course Inventory; providing technical assistance to PSUs on CTE issues; monitoring LEA compliance with applicable regulations, laws, policies, and procedures; facilitating processes for PSU local applications for CTE Planning and Performance Management; collaborating with the DPI staff; facilitating and/or providing professional development and updates to CTE personnel in PSUs; serving as the liaison for NC Prosperity Zones as assigned; and other duties as assigned by the CTE Director.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide technical assistance to internal and external clients including: CTE Directors and other PSU Central Office Personnel; Curriculum and Instructional Management Coordinators (CIMCs); Career Development Coordinators (CDCs); Special Populations Coordinators (SPCs); Principals; Teachers; Other CTE Staff; Other interested parties.

Provide local, regional, and statewide professional development opportunities to increase skills and knowledge of participants using multiple learning opportunities.

Support other CTE and DPI initiatives through leadership and coordination. Other initiatives may include Career Pathways, Regional Support Team, etc.

Monitor PSUs for compliance with federal and state laws and requirements: review and approve PSU local applications/plans; review and approve budgets for PRC 013, 014, 017 and other CTE budgets as designated from time to time; and monitor CTE program effectiveness.

Other special duties as identified by the Section Chief for Regional Services and CTE Director.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $63,927.00 - $104,264.00

Manager Preferences:  

• Experience as a CTE Director at a Public School Unit (PSU) is preferred.
• 711 CTE Director License preferred.

Career and Technical Education Division:

The primary purpose of the Career and Technical Education Division is to provide leadership, technical assistance, curriculum development and accountability for grades 6-12 in North Carolina public schools for students to be ready for careers and postsecondary education. The Division has content consultants in the areas of Agriculture Education; Business, Finance, and Marketing Education; Computer Science and Information Technology Education; Health Science Education; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Trade, Technology, Engineering, and Industrial Education; Career Development; Curriculum Management; Civil Rights; Special Populations; Planning and Performance Management; and Regional Coordination. The Division serves as the Agency's contact for the Community College System's articulation with Perkins legislation and accountability. The Career and Technical Education staff provides leadership, service, and accountability to local schools for Career and Technical Education programs and comprehensive career development. Services provided include policy development and interpretation, curriculum development, personnel and management of career and technical student organizations. Leadership includes maintaining partnerships with business/industry, governmental agencies, and trade organizations and associations.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
