JOB SUMMARY:

The Galveston County Sheriff's Office is seeking a professional, detail-oriented Telecommunicator to serve as the critical link between the public and emergency responders. This position is responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, evaluating and prioritizing requests for service, dispatching the appropriate emergency personnel, and accurately entering, accessing, and safeguarding confidential law enforcement information through TCIC/NCIC, and other protected databases. This position requires sound judgment, professionalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The Telecommunicator also assists with the upkeep of the Communications Center, maintains regular and punctual attendance, and performs all other duties as assigned in support of the Sheriff's Office mission and the safety of the community.

    

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be able to work under adverse conditions and during unusual hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and scheduled/unscheduled overtime.

  • Possess or have the ability to readily obtain a TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator License, as well as TCIC and NCIC certifications.

  • Ability to speak, read, and write the English language clearly and effectively.

  • Possess a valid Texas driver’s license.

  • Working knowledge of computers and job-related software with intermediate-level data entry and typing proficiency.

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and competency commonly associated with specialized training in the communications field.

  • Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation and all required interviews.

PART-TIME APPLICANTS ONLY

In addition to the minimum qualifications listed above, part-time applicants must:

  • Possess a current TCOLE Telecommunicator License at the time of application.

  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of public safety dispatch experience.
