Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Receives work orders and analyzes repair requirement in accordance with standard practices of automotive trade.
2. Under supervision, performs drive line, engine, transmission, rear end, electrical systems and diesel and gas engine repair on automotive and track/wheeled vehicles.
3. Performs preventive maintenance such as lubrications, oil changes, and service checks.
4. Changes and repairs tires.
5. Installs and assists with installing special automotive equipment.
6. Performs general shop maintenance and clean up.
7. May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of up-to-date methods of maintaining autos, trucks and track/wheeled vehicles.
2. Knowledge of operating principles and maintenance of gasoline and diesel powered engines.
3. Skill in using a variety of standard hand tools, machines, and power equipment.
4. Skill in using electrical and acetylene welding tools.
5. Ability to operate vehicles common to repair orders.
6. Ability to work from oral or written instructions.
7. Ability to work varied hours, including weekends, overtime, standby, call out or shift work.
8. Ability to attend job training as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. Four or more years experience in automotive mechanical maintenance; graduation from a vocational technical automotive repair program may substitute for experience.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above minimum requirements.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
1. Ability to possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Florida Commercial Driver's License.
2. Must provide sufficient hand tools to do repairs normal to the trade.
3. Must be ASE certified as Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
1. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
2. Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
3. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
4. Heavy lifting and carrying (in excess of 45 lbs.).
5. Reaching, pulling, walking, standing on concrete floors, kneeling, bending, stooping and climbing into and under equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
1. Works inside and outside shop area.
2. Grease or oils.
3. Slippery surfaces.
4. In or with moving objects or vehicles.
