Janitor

Description

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized manufacturing facility, offices, restrooms, break areas, and common spaces. This position plays an important role in supporting employee safety, product quality, and operational efficiency by ensuring work areas remain clean and free of hazards.

The Janitor performs routine cleaning, waste removal, facility upkeep, and minor housekeeping tasks throughout the facility while supporting the company's commitment to maintaining a professional and safe manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, break rooms, conference rooms, offices, and common areas. 
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and maintain floors throughout the manufacturing facility and office areas. 
• Empty trash, recycling containers, and scrap bins throughout the facility. 
• Maintain cleanliness of entrances, walkways, windows, doors, and employee gathering areas. 
• Clean production aisles and assist with maintaining organized work environments. 
• Remove dust, dirt, metal shavings, cardboard, packaging materials, and other debris from designated areas. 
• Restock restroom, break room, and janitorial supplies including paper towels, soap, tissue, and cleaning chemicals. 
• Clean employee lunch areas, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee stations, and vending areas. 
• Monitor facility cleanliness and identify housekeeping concerns requiring immediate attention. 
• Assist with spill cleanup using approved procedures and notify supervision of hazardous conditions. 
• Support 5S and workplace organization initiatives throughout the facility. 
• Safely use floor scrubbers, vacuums, pressure washers, and other custodial equipment. 
• Maintain janitorial equipment and report maintenance needs. 
• Ensure cleaning chemicals are stored, labeled, and handled according to OSHA and company safety requirements. 
• Assist with facility setup and cleanup for meetings, company events, and special projects. 
• Report building maintenance concerns such as plumbing leaks, lighting issues, damaged fixtures, or other facility deficiencies. 
• Maintain outdoor areas surrounding entrances, sidewalks, and designated employee areas as assigned. 
• Support housekeeping efforts during audits, customer visits, and safety inspections. 
• Perform all other duties as assigned by management. 

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred. 
• Previous janitorial, custodial, industrial cleaning, or manufacturing housekeeping experience preferred. 
• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and chemical handling. 
• Ability to safely operate floor scrubbers, vacuums, pressure washers, and other custodial equipment. 
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. 
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness. 
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
• Reliable attendance and punctuality. 
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic. 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the facility. 
• Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull cleaning supplies, trash containers, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. 
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment for extended periods. 
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions as needed. 
• Exposure to manufacturing equipment, forklifts, cranes, noise, dust, and industrial environments. 
• Must be able to safely handle approved cleaning chemicals while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). 
• Must be able to wear all required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toed footwear, and other required safety equipment.

Requirements

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent, required.
• 1 + year in janitorial or custodial experience preferred
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Familiarity with facilities maintenance practices is a plus.
• Knowledge of industrial cleaning techniques and equipment operation is beneficial.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
• Excellent time management skills to complete tasks efficiently.
• Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
