Job Purpose

The Director, Digital Platforms & Integration is accountable for defining, delivering and continuously evolving the foundational digital platforms, integration capabilities and information frameworks that enable GSK's future smart manufacturing, supply chain and CMC digital ecosystem.

The role leads the strategy, execution and operational performance of the Factory Integration Layer (FIL) as a critical enterprise capability connecting manufacturing systems, laboratory platforms, engineering applications, cloud services and business processes. The position ensures that platform and integration investments create reusable, scalable and technology-agnostic capabilities that accelerate business outcomes across sites, functions and products.

The Director is accountable for the Azure Local migration strategy, establishing a modern, secure and resilient hybrid foundation for digital products, analytics, AI and industrial data solutions across the manufacturing network.

As a key leader within the CMC Acceleration Program, the role owns delivery and integration of enterprise ontologies, knowledge-management capabilities, data pipelines and information architectures that transform fragmented data into connected, contextualized and actionable knowledge. The position enables digital thread capabilities across development, technology transfer, manufacturing, quality and supply chain operations.

Working with Product Leaders, Business Process Owners, Architects, Data & AI teams, Manufacturing Technology leaders and strategic partners, the Director aligns multiple transformation initiatives while ensuring solutions remain scalable, compliant, supportable and aligned to enterprise standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the strategy, roadmap and lifecycle for the Factory Integration Layer, creating a scalable digital backbone connecting manufacturing, laboratory, quality, engineering, data and enterprise platforms.
  • Establish FIL as a reusable enterprise capability through standard integration patterns, event-driven services, APIs, information models and repeatable site-onboarding approaches.
  • Lead Azure Local migration across relevant manufacturing and operational workloads, ensuring secure cutover, continuity, validation, resilience and sustainable product and service ownership.
  • Own Digital Platforms & Integration deliverables for the CMC Acceleration Program, translating development, technology-transfer and manufacturing priorities into integrated platform outcomes.
  • Lead the creation and operational adoption of enterprise ontologies, semantic models and common information definitions that connect product, process, material, equipment, recipe and manufacturing knowledge.
  • Lead the team in using approved AI tools to improve productivity and ways of working, role-modelling responsible use and ensuring compliance with GSK’s Responsible AI, privacy and security requirements.
  • Integrate knowledge-management capabilities across scientific, development and manufacturing domains to improve information discoverability, reuse, traceability and knowledge continuity.
  • Define platform governance, architecture guardrails, decision rights and performance measures covering adoption, reliability, throughput, latency, data quality, service effort, security and value realization.
  • Scan emerging platform, integration and edge capability (vendor roadmaps, new releases), pilot the most promising and bring a ranked opportunity list into the investment forums.
  • Own material delivery and operational risks, ensuring appropriate governance for cyber security, data protection, quality, validation, regulatory compliance and business continuity.
  • Sponsor operational readiness for major releases and migrations, integrating support models, training, documentation, deployment, monitoring, service transition and user adoption.
  • Shape strategic supplier contributions and resolve delivery, quality, commercial or capability issues affecting multiple platforms, products, sites or programs.
  • Represent digital platforms, integration health, dependencies, risks and investment impacts in senior product, architecture, data, cyber and transformation governance forums.
  • Build a high-performing, inclusive community of platform, integration and data professionals, strengthening engineering excellence, product ownership and continuous improvement.

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, Business, Life Sciences or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Professional qualifications in cloud, enterprise architecture, integration, data management, product management, agile delivery, service management or cyber security are desirable.
  • Typically 15+ years of experience in enterprise technology, digital manufacturing, integration platforms, cloud technologies, data platforms or digital transformation, including leadership of complex or regulated capabilities.
  • Proven accountability for enterprise-scale platform strategy, roadmap, delivery, adoption and lifecycle management with material business, operational and risk impact.
  • Experience leading Factory Integration Layer, industrial integration, OT/IT convergence, edge computing or comparable manufacturing-platform capabilities.
  • Experience leading Azure Local, hybrid-cloud or edge-infrastructure migration, including architecture, security, validation, cutover, operational readiness and service transition.
  • Demonstrated delivery of ontologies, semantic models, knowledge graphs, knowledge-management integrations, data pipelines or digital-thread capabilities.
  • Experience leading multiple Product Owners, Architects, Engineers, Data specialists or delivery workstreams and establishing clear decision rights and technical guardrails.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve strategic trade-offs across value, cost, capacity, architecture, data, cyber security, compliance and business continuity.
  • Experience influencing Director and VP stakeholders and representing platform delivery in investment, architecture, data, risk and transformation forums.
  • Strong experience managing cross-platform dependencies, supplier contributions, complex migrations and global release sequencing.
  • Experience strengthening ways of working, coaching technical talent and building sustainable platform, integration and knowledge-management capabilities.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Enterprise architecture and systems thinking, with the ability to connect business capability, information, integration, infrastructure and service views.
  • Executive communication and confidence operating in senior governance forums.
  • Deep understanding of integration patterns, APIs, event streaming, industrial connectivity and contextualized data flows.
  • Working knowledge of Azure Local, hybrid infrastructure, edge computing, containers and platform engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of ontologies, semantic technologies, knowledge graphs, metadata and knowledge-management principles.
  • Analytical judgement to balance value, risk, cost, complexity, urgency and operational impact.
  • Strong organisation, traceability, documentation and decision-management discipline.
  • Ability to lead global, cross-functional and supplier teams through ambiguity and complex dependencies.
  • Commitment to user-centred, capability-led and technology-agnostic solutions.
  • Passion for engineering excellence, responsible AI enablement, smart manufacturing and continuous improvement.
