Description

MANAGER, MEMBER MARKETING & ENGAGEMENT
First Book | Washington, DC (Hybrid: Tuesdays & Wednesdays Onsite)

ABOUT FIRST BOOK:
First Book is a leading nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to removing barriers to quality education for children in need. Through innovative public–private partnerships and a national network of more than 600,000 educators, program leaders, and community organizations, First Book has distributed over 250 million books and educational resources to under-resourced communities. Our work spans e-commerce (First Book Marketplace), research and insights (First Book R&I), and tailored program development (First Book Accelerator), all designed to elevate the voices and needs of educators serving children in low-income communities.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The First Book Network is a vibrant community of 600,000+ educators, professionals, and volunteers serving kids in need who hold enormous collective power. Engaging them and rapidly growing the Network are key to First Book’s organizational goals and scaling plan. The Manager works to deepen brand loyalty and accelerate growth by iterating on proven initiatives, piloting new member programs, and fostering partnerships for resources and content – taking them from concept to large-scale, multi-channel distribution. The Manager will work closely with the Director of Member Engagement as well as cross-functionally to inform campaign design that keeps educators’ needs, desire for connection, and user experience top-of-mind.

We're seeking a candidate passionate about building community or customer following and who excels at data-informed decisions and human connection. The ideal candidate has experience designing or contributing to customer- or member-facing initiatives for scale and can balance high-level strategy with hands-on program execution. They will guide the structure of programs and their communication campaigns to ensure all touch points with our membership are user friendly, impactful, and relevant for educators serving kids from under-resourced communities. They should be passionate about creating meaningful experiences that drive engagement while maintaining a focus on measurable business outcomes.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN:
Multi-Channel Marketing:
  • Design and execute multi-channel campaigns to members and prospects that emphasize First Book’s membership benefits and resources, promote our community-building initiatives, and promote the value proposition of the First Book Marketplace. Channels could include paid Meta and Google ad placement, SMS campaigns, direct mail, email marketing, etc.
  • Define and track metrics for successful engagement with the multi-channel campaigns, such as ad engagement, registration conversion, resource downloads, video views, or referrals.
  • Create innovative content and graphics for campaigns such as ad creative using Canva or Photoshop, GIFs, acquiring user-generated content, etc.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to member engagement, retention, referral activity, campaign performance, and community participation. Use insights to continuously optimize programs and communications.

Strategic Development of a Membership Community:
  • Define the programmatic roadmap for community-building initiatives for members, such as the First Book Community Platform, the First Book Champions Program, and the First Book Member Referral Program.
  • Lead the end-to-end execution of member engagement programs, including content planning, campaign development, community management, virtual event execution, and member communications that increase acquisition, participation, and retention.
  • Guide colleagues and other stakeholders in the design and optimization of member-facing content and mutually beneficial outreach campaigns.
  • Develop scalable recognition and ambassador programs that increase member advocacy, referrals, and long-term engagement.

Network Growth:
  • Create data-informed member referral, ambassador, and advocacy strategies that empower and incentivize educators to promote First Book and drive network growth.
  • Efficiently utilize funding for the purpose of growing the Network while maintaining alignment with the goals of corporate and nonprofit partners.
  • Enhance existing community initiatives to grow membership and loyalty.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for prospecting campaigns and initiatives.

  • Takes a positive, solution-oriented approach to opportunities and challenges.
