Your Night Shift
As an RN on nights, you’ll start with handoff and quickly set priorities for the shift. The pace can shift from steady rounding to urgent changes in patient condition, so you’ll stay organized, communicate clearly with providers and teammates, and keep families informed when appropriate. You’ll balance independent decision-making with teamwork, using protocols and clinical judgment to guide next steps. When census or acuity changes, you may help in another area, then wrap up the shift by ensuring notes are complete and the next team has a clear, thorough report.
