In this role, you will support patients experiencing behavioral health challenges by providing direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). This is an important opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients by helping maintain a safe, supportive, and respectful environment during times of crisis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, mobility, positioning, and meals.
  • Monitor patients and promptly report changes in physical or mental health to the RN.
  • Assist with behavioral emergencies using appropriate crisis prevention, de-escalation, and intervention techniques.
  • Maintain patient safety by completing required observations, documenting patient activity and care, and following individualized treatment plans.
  • Conduct patient, belongings, room, and metal detector searches as required.
  • Assist with seclusion or restraint interventions under the direction of an RN, using the least restrictive approach appropriate to the situation.
  • Facilitate patient activities and groups as directed by nursing staff.

  • Protect patient privacy, confidentiality, and rights while working collaboratively with the healthcare team.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Maine CNA certification preferred.
  • One year of behavioral health experience required. Relevant college coursework in mental health technology, behavioral science, social work, or rehabilitation therapy, or completion of a mental health training certificate program, may substitute for some experience as outlined in the position requirements.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or completed before the end of orientation.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations.
