Build a Career with Purpose. Help Create a Community for Life.

At Peel Region, our people make a difference every day. From public health and paramedic services to housing, childcare, long-term care, and community supports, our employees help create healthy, safe, and connected communities.

As part of our Culture and Inclusion team, as the Advisor, Strategic Initiatives, you’ll be at the forefront, guiding the vision and leading the charge as well as the staff to embed reconciliation, equity, accessibility, diversity and inclusion (READI) principles into every aspect of workforce and community planning.

This is your chance to take the lead on groundbreaking READI initiatives, inspire transformation, and shape the future of an organization that is wholeheartedly committed to inclusion.

Guided by our values of Inclusion, Collaboration, Care, Transparency, and Leadership, you will drive meaningful change and shaping an inclusive culture. Make a lasting impact by influencing the READI landscape across an entire organization. Contribute to an organization committed to building a Community for Life!

 What You’ll Do:

  • Lead DEI Strategy & Vision: Shape and lead the organization’s DEI strategy, creating a culture of inclusion that champions anti-racism, breaks down systemic barriers, and fosters belonging at every level.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and lead direct reports, providing guidance and support to help them successfully implement READI strategies. You'll help grow the next generation of READI leaders within the organization.
  • Strategic Leadership: As a key thought leader, provide visionary direction to senior leaders, empowering them to integrate READI into all aspects of the organization. Your leadership will inspire others to follow suit and make READI a priority in their areas of responsibility.
  • Expert Consultation & Coaching: Advise leadership and employees on READI policies, best practices, and actionable strategies. You’ll be the trusted guide in ensuring that READI principles are aligned with organizational goals and executed effectively across all levels.
  • Lead Organizational Change: Champion cultural transformation within the organization. Utilize your expertise to monitor trends, provide strategic recommendations, and drive READI policy changes that enhance inclusivity and organizational growth.
  • External Representation & Advocacy: Represent the organization at conferences, public speaking engagements, and external READI-related committees. Be a spokesperson who brings the organization’s READI commitments to the broader community and positions the Region of Peel as a READI leader.
  • Leadership at All Levels: Collaborate with leadership across the organization to ensure READI is integrated at every level—whether it’s through guiding team leaders, coaching executives, or supporting day-to-day operations to reflect READI goals.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience & Expertise: University degree in Business, HR, Public Admin, or a related field, and at least 6 years of hands-on experience leading READI initiatives in large organizations.
  • DEI Knowledge & Influence: You are well-versed in anti-racism, systemic discrimination, unconscious bias, and cultural competence, and you can inspire others to embrace and adopt these complex READI concepts into actionable strategies.
  • Proven Leadership: You’ve demonstrated your ability to lead from the front—guiding senior leaders and direct reports, influencing strategic decisions, and driving READI initiatives from planning through to successful execution.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Whether it’s delivering presentations, facilitating workshops, or having one-on-one consultations, your communication style is clear, persuasive, and inspiring.
  • Collaborative & Inclusive: You thrive in building partnerships, uniting diverse groups, and driving READI objectives with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Innovative Problem Solver: You're able to anticipate challenges and create adaptable, innovative strategies that drive long-term organizational change.
  • Municipal Experience (A Plus!): Experience working within a municipal government environment and an understanding of the political and administrative culture would be an asset.
