Athletic training is the care and service provided by or under the direction or supervision of a certified athletic trainer. It entails evaluation, treatment and management of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders for the purpose of promoting and enhancing human functional performance. 

•  Provide services directed toward achieving increased functional independence, decreasing functional limitations, and prevention of injuries to the physically active individual/athlete.
• Upon the advice and consent of a physician, carry out the practice of prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, disposition, treatment, and/or rehabilitation of injuries.
• Use physical modalities, such as heat, light, sound, cold, electricity, or mechanical devices related to treatment of the injured individual.
• Provide education in the prevention of injuries, conditioning, and rehabilitation of injuries is an integral part of their scope of practice.
• Direct and supervise athletic training services under the direction of physicians and in accordance with individual state practice acts.
• Interact and practice in collaboration with a variety of professionals, including physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
• Consult, educate, engage in research, and administrate.
• Document evaluative findings, treatments administered, the assessment of patient response to treatment and treatment plan.
• Communicate with the referring physician regarding patient progress.
• Attend required meetings and participate as requested.
• Clean and maintain treatment area and workspace.
• Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Maintains a professional manner while effectively working with others.
•  Knowledge and skills in athletic training and orthopedic rehabilitation.
• Knowledge and skills in rehab equipment and safety regulations.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in all written and oral communications, including email.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

• Ability to speak effectively before patients and groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• A self-starter with the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Requirements

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited university athletic training program.

· Experience as an athletic trainer or supervised internship.

· Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association.

· Licensure by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
