Role Overview
The Director for Construction & Project Development will lead the end-to-end delivery of construction projects, from initial planning and ground-up development through completion and opening. The role will oversee multiple large-scale projects, ensuring timely execution, quality, cost efficiency, and alignment with an aggressive expansion program.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
- At least 15 years of relevant engineering and construction experience, with a minimum of 10 years in a people management or leadership role.
- Proven experience managing the full construction lifecycle, particularly ground-up projects, from planning, design coordination, and permitting through construction, completion, and turnover.
- Strong experience in retail construction, particularly large-format retail projects, with an understanding of large-box site development and store rollout requirements.
- Experience handling high-volume or aggressive expansion programs, with the ability to manage multiple projects and locations simultaneously.
- Strong background in contractor, subcontractor, consultant, and supplier management and coordination.
- Solid understanding of construction planning, project scheduling, cost management, quality control, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage tight timelines and opening deadlines.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with experience leading construction teams across multiple projects or locations.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end construction lifecycle of new developments, from site planning and design coordination through construction, completion, and opening.
- Oversee the delivery of large-format retail and large-box construction projects, ensuring compliance with approved scope, budget, quality standards, and timelines.
- Develop and manage construction plans, schedules, milestones, and resource requirements to support an aggressive expansion program.
- Manage and coordinate contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and other project stakeholders to ensure smooth and timely project execution.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and potential delays, and implement appropriate corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, technical specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure projects are completed and ready for opening within established deadlines.
- Review and monitor project costs, variations, contractor performance, and overall project commercial requirements.
- Provide regular progress updates and reports to senior management, highlighting project status, key risks, timelines, costs, and required decisions.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the construction team while ensuring effective manpower allocation across multiple projects and locations.
