Overview
Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI) is seeking an Associate Research Scientist within the Aerosol group. The qualified candidate should have demonstrated experience in aerosols sciences with a focus on pharmaceutical and environmental aerosols. This would include the scientific background to support the characterization, development and analysis of complex aerosols and the application of these techniques to applied sciences. Additional competencies within engineering and drug development are preferred.
The candidate should be able to maintain documentation at a high level and interface with multiple scientific staff in a fast-paced environment. The chosen candidate will evolve in a team-oriented environment where highly integrated research is performed to provide aerosol expertise to Lovelace programs, government agencies, pharmaceutical partners, and industrial entities. The individual will support a range of different programs that may include federal (or similar) funded programs and/or commercial programs with a wide range of different objectives. The Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for aerosol development, characterization, aerosol engineering, application and development of novel techniques and in the reporting and presentation of data to sponsors and the broad scientific community. The successful candidate should pursue recognition within the external scientific community within aerosol science through publications and scientific presentations.
Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident in order to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB).
Qualifications
Requires a Ph.D in Aerosol Sciences, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a directly related field and a minimum of 2 years of directly related research experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must have demonstrated ability to handle fundamental scientific tasks and have published and/or presented original research in prior roles. Requires research experience in a specific discipline.
Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism and excellent problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team as well as the ability to maintain confidential information. Requires professional-level computer skills and advanced experience with Excel, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
This position will involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which will require vaccinations/immunizations. Ability to obtain and maintain Select Agent clearance is required. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment. Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator.
