What is The Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Streams UI team, where you'll have the chance to shape and enhance our user interface, making it more intuitive and engaging for our users. In this role, you'll work on Fleet. Fleet is the central management experience for Elastic Agent in Kibana. You'll also work on Streams. Streams is our new tool for handling log data. This includes ingesting, organizing, parsing, enriching, and setting retention for the data. You will be part of a skilled group of engineers and designers. What You Will Be Doing

Design and implement intuitive user interface components that enhance user commitment, using TypeScript, React, and Node.js. Integrate front-end elements seamlessly with back-end services to ensure a smooth user experience. Conduct usability testing and gather user feedback to drive continuous improvements.

Own complex, loosely-defined problems end-to-end: shape the approach, split the work if needed, make the key technical decisions, and deliver.

Lead discussions on architecture and system design. During these discussions, consider trade-offs. Also, think about backwards compatibility, performance, and scale.

Establish coding standards and ensure the team adheres to them throughout the development process. Promote reusable components to improve efficiency and implement automated testing and deployment to maintain code quality. Evaluate new technologies for potential integration and document best practices to facilitate team-wide knowledge sharing.

Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices. Offer constructive feedback and identify potential security vulnerabilities in the codebase. Focus on maintaining code readability and facilitate discussions with team members to address any findings from the code review.

Collaborate async across timezones with a fully-distributed team, working in the open on GitHub and in Slack.

Partner closely with designers and product managers to apprehend user experience goals and translate their mockups into functional UI components. Ensure a consistent visual design across all UI elements. Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas for enhancing the user interface.
What You Bring
-
Solid production experience with full-stack JavaScript, preferably TypeScript ; React on the front end and Node.js on the back end. Some experience with Reactflow is a plus.

A track record of leading non-trivial projects end-to-end, with real design ownership and minimal guidance.

Proficient architecture and system-design judgment, including in large, existing codebases.

Successfully designed and launched multiple user interface components that significantly increased user commitment

You should have experience using AI-assisted development tools. These tools can help you develop features faster, fix complex systems, and improve existing codebases.

Exemplary written and verbal communication, and a genuine excitement for async collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

A generalist streak and a user-focused mindset, with consideration for the people using your software.
Bonus Points

Experience with the Elastic stack, observability tooling, or log/data-ingestion pipelines.

Go, Kubernetes, or cloud-native application development experience.

Experience building large user interfaces that manage a lot of data. This includes skills in search, filtering, and tables. You should also have experience working with streaming or real-time data.

Prior open-source / working-in-the-open experience, or time on a developer-facing platform team.

Experience mentoring engineers or leading a small project team.
Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary. This role does not have a variable compensation component.
The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below. In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below.
These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.
An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program.
