Engineering Specialist Mine Infrastructure – Infrastructure Maintenance

About your role
We are seeking a Engineering Specialist Mine Infrastructure to join our Underground Maintenance Team, supporting the delivery and ongoing performance of a world‑class underground mine in Mongolia. This is a key role within the owner’s team, responsible for supporting the maintenance, reliability, and upgrades of underground production infrastructure.
The scope of this role includes all aspects of underground infrastructure, notably:
- Dewatering
- Service & Fire Water
- Compressed Air
- Vent doors, booster fans, and other underground support fixed plant assets
The role will assist in the coordination of the scope development, project schedule, engineering design, tender packages and evaluation, component procurement, contractor management for the infrastructure Improvements and maintenance for the underground Fixed Plant Department.
The role shall ensure that the designs and fabrication are compliant with the Oyu Tolgoi health and safety systems and procedures, ensuring designs and fabricated components are completed to the required standard, quality and international best practices.
Working within the Infrastructure team (Maintenance and Engineering team) and reporting to the Manager Infrastructure Maintenance you will assist and lead the following;
- Collaborate with operations teams to identify issues and process bottlenecks.
- Analyze reports from fixed plant and infrastructure teams, provide recommendations, and track implementation.
- Assist in the implementation of reliability and production improvement projects in coordination with all stakeholders.
- Package procurement and implementation strategy development to support the long-term objectives of the business
- Assist in the Development of Project Budgets, cost estimation and approvals
- Review spare strategies, maintenance, and operation reports to analyze issues and bottlenecks.
- Following the Rio Asset Management Process from procurement to working with site planners to ensure FLOC, BOM’s and Maintenance Strategies and Maintenance Tactics are in SAP.
- Utilize experience in plant operations to drive continuous improvements.
- Assess and refine operations and maintenance strategies for enhanced efficiency.
- Actively participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), maintenance meetings, and operations discussions
- Coordination of Tendering Process and Technical Evaluations
- Focus on safety in design aspects of new scope to minimize the risks associated with execution
- Providing technical and constructability support and direction on engineering matters, building on and sharing of the lessons learned
- Participating in constructability reviews to identify opportunities to improve execution and/or operations of the facilities
- Maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have the following:
- Maintenance background with Mechanical Engineering Qualifications
- Experience in leading Construction projects and multidisciplinary teams for plant improvements.
- Outstanding commitment to HSE and Quality
- Experience in Construction projects.
- Experience in piping systems and underground mining construction, operations, and maintenance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on operational efficiency and reliability.
- At least 10 years of experience in Engineering, Construction and design.
- Have experience in the coordination of Contractors and operational teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team
- An ability to work autonomously within a highly complex project delivery environment
- A can-do attitude that seeks to provide solutions and a desire for continuous improvement
A desire to pass on your wealth of industry experience and knowledge in order to accelerate development of capability and knowledge amongst the company and contractor national workforce.
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- SAP or CMMS, Asset Management experience
- CAD, Solidworks drawing experience
- Underground experience
- Experience in national capability development and working overseas

Where you’ll be working
Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
