Description

The Whatcom County Health Department is seeking a Public Health professional to plan, coordinate, and supervise the daily operations of the Health Information and Assessment unit within Health and Community Services. Supervises professional staff responsible for epidemiology, assessment, surveillance, health informatics, data management, and population health analytics to support evidence-based public health practice and organizational decision-making.
This critical position will oversee the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of public health data while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, professional standards, and departmental policies.
Other key duties include:
- Supervises the daily operations of the Health Information and Assessment unit
- Coordinates epidemiology, surveillance, assessment, health informatics, and population health data activities
- Oversees the collection, management, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of public health information
- Provides technical consultation to department leadership by interpreting public health data
Guides the development, enhancement, and effective use of health information systems,
Supports department accreditation, performance management, community health assessment, and quality improvement initiatives
Coordinates cross-departmental and community data initiatives by working with governmental agencies, healthcare providers, community organizations, and regional partners
Administers assigned personnel functions by participating in recruitment, employee selection, performance evaluations, corrective action, and application of personnel policies and collective bargaining agreements.

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM

Salary: $7,203 - $10,458 per month Unrepresented Range 9
Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in public health, epidemiology, health informatics, statistics, data science, health information management, or a closely related field and five (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience, including at least four (4) years of lead or supervisor experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in public health.
Experience working in a public health department or local health jurisdiction.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position may be considered. Experience may substitute for education, and education may substitute for experience when appropriate. Substitution does not apply where a specific degree, license, or certification is required by law, regulation, or professional standards.
