Description

Job Purpose:

The Director of Materials and Parts is responsible for leading the strategic planning, procurement, inventory control, warehousing, distribution, repair management, and regulatory compliance of aircraft parts, materials, tooling, consumables, and related supply chain functions. This position ensures the maintenance organization has the right parts available at the right time, in the right location, and at the right cost to support safe, reliable, and compliant aircraft operations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide executive leadership over aircraft materials, rotable components, expendables, tooling, stores, shipping and receiving, vendor services, and parts logistics.
  • Develop and execute a materials strategy that supports aircraft availability, maintenance production, AOG recovery, heavy maintenance events, line maintenance support, and cost control objectives.
  • Establish stocking strategies, min/max levels, reorder parts, pool support, and forward-positioning plans to reduce operational risk and improve parts availability.
  • Lead procurement activities to ensure parts are sourced from approved suppliers with proper documentation, traceability, certification, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee inventory accuracy, cycle count programs, physical inventory, shelf-life control, quarantine processes, calibrated tooling support, and hazardous material handling.

  • Partner with Maintenance Control, Planning, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Finance, and Operations to align materials support with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships, negotiate service levels, monitor supplier performance, and drive corrective action when vendors fail to meet cost, quality, or delivery expectations.
  • Monitor KPIs including parts availability, AOG response time, inventory accuracy, repair turnaround time, purchase order aging, warranty recovery, obsolete inventory, and budget performance.
  • Ensure all parts and materials processes comply with FAA regulations, company policies, quality procedures, export control requirements, and applicable safety standards.
  • Lead the day-to-day performance of the Materials and Parts organization, including purchasing, stores, inventory control, parts distribution, repair administration, and logistics coordination.
  • Build and maintain a reliable materials support model for scheduled maintenance, unscheduled maintenance, AOG events, aircraft induction, heavy checks, and special projects.
  • Implement disciplined purchasing controls to balance operational urgency with approved budgets, capital planning, and cost reduction targets.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping for purchase orders, receiving records, certificates of conformity, FAA 8130-3 forms, material certifications, invoices, core tracking, and repair documentation.
  • Develop processes that improve material visibility, system accuracy, demand planning, parts forecasting, and cross-functional communication.
  • Support audit readiness by maintaining complete documentation, traceability, inventory control evidence, and compliance with internal and external inspection requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce shortages, excess stock, freight spend, repair delays, and avoidable aircraft out-of-service time.
