Job Description:

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

It's an exciting time to join bp. Meeting the energy challenge requires many different approaches and solutions. And as part of Finance Business & Technology (FBT), you’ll be fully connected into the world of bp. You’ll play an increasingly important part within a network of like-minded colleagues partnering on strategic projects that stretch across the globe. And it starts with you. There’s a world of opportunities to build new skills, challenge yourself and grow a long-term career at bp. And no matter where you work, your role will have meaning, purpose and impact. So, if you want to be part of a caring, supportive environment where you can realize your full potential, we’re with you.

About the role

bp continuously drives to be successful, competitive and efficient in the way it manages credit risk and enables business with its customers. To support this goal, the Customer Credit organisation runs a portfolio of change: standardising and harmonising processes, strengthening accountabilities and capabilities, implementing and upgrading systems, automating manual activities, reducing losses and enabling more business with our customers - without compromising control.

The Customer Credit Process Subject Matter Expert acts as the link between day-to-day credit operations and the wider design, system and simplification agenda. The role is the guardian of standardised credit process design within the team and the trusted expert who ensures that every change, reorganisation or system implementation is assessed for its operational, control and commercial consequences before it is adopted.

The role holder reports to the Customer Credit Team Lead and is expected to combine deep credit process knowledge with structured problem solving and sound judgement: understanding how critical a decision can be, what the downstream impact on customers, sales, cash and control will be, and recommending the right - not simply the fastest - solution. The scope of the role is Customer Credit only (credit risk assessment, credit limits, securities, exposure management, trade credit insurance, blocked orders and credit reporting); cash collection, dispute management and cash & banking processes are not in scope, although interfaces to them must be understood and respected.

In this role You will

Improve and simplify credit processes

  • Find opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate the end-to-end Customer Credit process.
  • Review existing ways of working and challenge unnecessary manual activities, duplication and sophisticated processes.
  • Own and maintain process documentation, work instructions and standards, ensuring processes are clear, consistent and easy to follow.
  • Ensure that process improvements remain aligned with bp's global credit policies, standards and controls.

Lead and support projects and system implementations

  • Take an active role in Customer Credit projects and continuous improvement initiatives, from planning and implementation through to completion.
  • Represent the Customer Credit function in system implementations and upgrades, including platforms such as SAP/S4 and Salesforce.
  • Translate business needs into clear requirements and acceptance criteria, coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT), manage defects and support go-live and hypercare activities.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure projects deliver the expected business outcomes.
  • Support organisational changes and transitions, helping teams adapt to new processes, systems and responsibilities.

Use your credit expertise to support better decisions

  • Assess how proposed process, system or organisational changes could impact credit risk, controls, compliance, cash, customers and operational workload.
  • Provide clear, fact-based recommendations and highlight potential risks and trade-offs.
  • Use your knowledge of financial analysis, credit risk assessment, credit limits, securities and trade credit insurance to make sure that process simplification never comes at the expense of effective risk management.
  • Act as a trusted escalation point and provide a second opinion on complex or high-impact credit cases.

Turn data into insight and automation

  • Develop and improve credit reporting and Key Performance Indicators covering areas such as exposure, overdue balances, blocked orders and process performance.
  • Analyse portfolio and process data to identify trends, root causes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive automation using tools such as Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate, Excel/macros or Python.
  • Partner with IT&S and digital teams to develop larger-scale technology solutions.

Share knowledge and help others succeed

  • Create training materials, playbooks and guidance to support the adoption of new processes and systems.
  • Coach and support credit analysts on process, systems and analytical topics.
  • Help onboard new team members and ensure knowledge is effectively shared across the team.

Build strong partnerships

  • Collaborate with Credit teams across different regions as well as Sales, Customer Service, IT&S, Internal Control, Audit and other stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships and influence decisions across functions, even where you do not have direct authority.
  • Act as a link between local Credit Operations and the global Credit strategy, making sure that global solutions work effectively in the local business environment.
  • Ensure that processes remain compliant, well-controlled and audit ready.

What You will need to be successful

  • University degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Economics, Finance or a related field
  • Project management exposure or certification (e.g. Agile, Prince2, Lean Six Sigma) is an advantage
  • Customer Credit / credit risk experience in an international environment, ideally including exposure to a shared service centre
  • Proven track record of delivering process improvement, automation or system implementation initiatives
  • Strong analytical skills: able to interpret financial information, portfolio data and process metrics and turn them into recommendations
  • Advanced MS Office (Excel) and hands-on experience with at least one automation or visualisation tool (Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate, macros, Python)
  • SAP knowledge; process design tool experience (e.g. ARIS, Visio)
  • Minimum English B2 (reading, writing and speaking); other European language knowledge is an advantage
  • Able to work independently, manage several parallel initiatives and deliver high quality output to tight deadlines
  • Relevant bp business experience and knowledge, ideally gained in a business service centre environment
  • Knowledge of bp systems such as SAP, Salesforce and credit agency / trade credit insurance platforms
  • Experience of working with credit insurers, securities and collateral instruments
  • Experience of facilitating workshops and influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority
  • Able to deal with sophisticated and ambiguous situations while maintaining the right balance of customer, commercial and control focus
