  • Lead and/or support personnel investigations into complaints of discrimination or harassment (e.g. speak with witnesses and write investigation reports); and
  • Partner with a team of Compliance experts dedicated to making the State of Maine the Employer of Choice in Maine.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  • Analytical Thinking - The ability to identify key issues in a problem or situation, examining interpersonal, personal, political and situational variables.
  • Creativity -The ability to recognize and make recommendations when there is a need for new/modified approaches.
  • Customer Focus - The ability to probe for the real, underlying needs of employee or manager seeking assistance and to match those to available options.
  • Effective Communications – The ability to negotiate solutions to problems or obstacles while maintaining positive relationships with others.
  • Integrity – The ability to choose actions in accordance with agency vision, even when in conflict with personal preference.
  • Results Oriented – The ability to anticipate personal and environmental obstacles to reaching objectives and plan contingent actions accordingly.
  • Sound Judgment – The ability to evaluate facts, analyze information, reach logical conclusions and make sound recommendations.
  • Supportive Coaching – The ability to share experiences to help others recognize what has worked well in the past and what can be improved.
  • Systems Thinking – The ability to form clear interpretations and understand the dynamics of a situation based upon many types and multiple sources of information.
  • Vision – The ability to promote a long-term, big-picture view of Maine State Government and its goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A candidate must demonstrate:

  • Experience in EEO Compliance (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Family and Medical Leave Act, or other comparable state or federal laws).
  • Experience in conducting internal personnel investigations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with groups and in a leadership role.

Preference will be given to those applicants with:

  • Experience working with a large employer in a human resources capacity and/or
  • A law degree (Juris Doctor).
