Recreation Aide Part Time - Trillium Court

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;

• Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;

• Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;

• Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;

• Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;

• Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;

• Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;

• Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;

• Assisting with Restorative Dining during meal services ;

• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);

• Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;

• Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution

• or Proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that is equivalent to the diploma, degree or certificate

• Skills and experience in a health care or similar setting

• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, care planning, resident assessments, implementation, and evaluation for geriatric population especially those cognitively impaired is preferred

• Experience with an older adult population an asset

• Strong customer and resident service skills.

• Experience in a high paced customer service setting an asset

• Flexible and willingness to learn new tasks

• Ability to multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities

• Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Activity Pro and Point Click Care

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

• Must provide proof of a 2 step TB test
