[What the role is]
The mission of SFA is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore. The Agriculture Technology Department (AGT) plans and conducts translational research in agri-inputs, crop management, crop protection, crop improvement, and precision agriculture. Leads the development of sustainable farming practices, provides technical assistance to strengthen farm capabilities, while driving the Agritech Translation Programme.The successful candidate will support agricultural research and crop improvement initiatives by executing plant breeding protocols, maintaining cultivation systems, managing trial data, and ensuring the smooth operation of research facilities and associated logistics.
[What you will be working on]
- Support the planning, setup and execution of agricultural research projects and operational activities
- Carry out day-to-day tasks and procedures in accordance with established work processes and guidelines.
- Assist with plant cultivation, crop maintenance, and other activities related to agricultural research and crop improvement.
- Monitor and maintain growing environments, equipment and facilities to ensure smooth operations.
- Collect, record and maintain data and information accurately to support project monitoring and reporting.
- Coordinate the handling, movement and storage of research materials, equipment and supplies.
- Support inventory management and procurement of operational and research-related consumables.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised work environment in compliance with workplace safety requirements.
- Provide operational and administrative support for new projects, trials, events and other departmental initiatives as required.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors or management.
[What we are looking for]
- Diploma in Agriculture, Urban Agricultural Technology, Horticulture, Plant Science, Agrotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- Prior internship experience in a research facility, nursery, greenhouse, laboratory, or farm is a strong advantage.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with a systematic approach to work.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Adaptable, resourceful and able to respond effectively to evolving operational and project needs.
- Strong interest in agriculture, research and innovation, with the willingness to undertake fieldwork and hands-on activities in outdoor, greenhouse and controlled-environment settings.
