Position Summary
Martek Global Services is seeking a Senior Facilities Management Specialist to support the Department of War (DoW) High Performance Computing (HPC) Modernization Program at the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

This position is a senior-level, hands-on technical role responsible for independently troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and optimizing HVAC and mechanical systems supporting a mission-critical High Performance Computing (HPC) and data center environment. The successful candidate must be comfortable personally diagnosing equipment failures, performing repairs, and responding to HVAC and environmental-control issues while maintaining continuous facility operations.

Position Details
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday (or 5 days/week); Requires on-call on a rotating basis
Work Location: On-site
Site Address: Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland
Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000

Responsibilities
Provide engineering and technical support for mission-critical High Performance Computing (HPC) and data center infrastructure operating in a 24/7 environment.

Facilities Operations & Maintenance

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and support the repair of mission-critical facility infrastructure, including chilled water plants, HVAC systems, CRAC/CRAH units, power distribution equipment, generators, transfer switches, switchgear, and power monitoring systems.
  • Perform hands-on HVAC troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. This position requires demonstrated hands-on technical capability and is not limited to facilities oversight, vendor coordination, or troubleshooting.
  • Diagnose and correct mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, airflow, temperature, humidity, and HVAC control-system issues, including determining appropriate repair, adjustment, or component replacement.
  • Support chilled-water systems, air handling units (AHUs), cooling towers, pumps, motors, valves, VAV systems, VFDs, refrigeration equipment, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Use HVAC diagnostic equipment, including multimeters, refrigerant/pressure gauges, temperature and humidity instruments, and other electronic diagnostic tools.
  • Support Building Automation Systems (BAS), including Metasys, Tracer, and SiteScan platforms, and troubleshoot alarms, controls, sensors, and equipment performance issues.
  • Monitor facility and environmental performance and recommend corrective actions and improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, redundancy, and uptime.
  • Respond to equipment failures, environmental alarms, and emergency facility conditions in support of continuous mission operations.
Engineering & Technical Leadership
  • Review mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, submittals, specifications, and engineering documentation for construction, repair, and modernization projects.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, and control-system issues and provide technical recommendations for resolution.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to improve facility reliability, redundancy, maintainability, and operational performance.
  • Analyze recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
  • Support large-scale data center infrastructure upgrades, equipment replacements, commissioning activities, and expansion projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to facilities and maintenance personnel, as needed.
Contract & Asset Management
  • Support the acquisition, review, and administration of facilities-related contracts.
  • Coordinate vendor performance, contractor activities, specialized repairs, and service delivery while maintaining internal hands-on responsibility for applicable facility maintenance and repair activities.
  • Procure facility equipment, replacement parts, and operational materials.
  • Maintain asset inventories, preventive maintenance schedules, repair records, and lifecycle management documentation.
  • Identify equipment approaching end of useful life and provide recommendations for repair, replacement, or modernization.
Customer Support & Program Coordination
  • Serve as a facilities liaison with Government representatives, engineering teams, contractors, and program leadership.
  • Provide technical risk assessments and recommend cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
  • Coordinate planned shutdowns, repairs, maintenance activities, and infrastructure projects to minimize disruption to mission-critical operations.
  • Support mission readiness by ensuring critical infrastructure availability for DoW Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) High Performance Computing operations.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency response activities as required to support 24/7 facility operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of program objectives.
Qualifications
Required
  • Active Secret Security Clearance (Top Secret preferred) (will consider candidates if they have all other necessary qualifications and have the ability to obtain one)
  • One of the following education and experience combinations:
    • High School Diploma and 8 years of related experience; or
    • Associate's degree and 6 years of related experience; or
    • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of related experience; or
    • Master's degree and 2 years of related experience; or
    • Ph.D. in a related field
  • EPA Universal Certification
  • Electrical or Mechanical trade certification
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial or industrial HVAC, facilities maintenance, or mission-critical facility operations, including substantial hands-on HVAC responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience personally performing HVAC maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, rather than solely overseeing technicians, contractors, or vendors.
  • Strong hands-on experience with commercial and industrial HVAC equipment, including chilled-water systems, air handling units (AHUs), pumps, motors, valves, VAV systems, VFDs, refrigeration equipment, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, airflow, temperature, humidity, and HVAC control-system issues.
  • Proficiency using HVAC diagnostic tools and equipment, including multimeters, refrigerant/pressure gauges, temperature and humidity instruments, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls, including the ability to troubleshoot alarms, sensors, controls, and equipment performance issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, control diagrams, equipment specifications, and operations and maintenance documentation.
  • Working knowledge of mission-critical facility infrastructure, including HVAC and cooling systems, emergency/standby power, generators, transfer switches, switchgear, and power distribution systems.
  • Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance and responding to equipment failures and emergency facility conditions.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to facility emergencies as required.
Preferred
  • Completion of an HVAC technical/trade school program, recognized apprenticeship, or equivalent technical training preferred.
  • Experience supporting High Performance Computing (HPC) or DoW mission-critical environments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data center operations.
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, and facilities service providers.
