Description
Environmental Sustainability Officer
Help drive Artifex's journey towards a more sustainable future and support our ambition to become a climate-neutral business by 2039.
At Artifex, sustainability is more than a compliance requirement. It is a key part of how we innovate, improve and create long-term value for our customers, colleagues and communities. We're looking for an Environmental Sustainability Officer to help lead environmental and sustainability initiatives across our UK operations, ensuring we continue to meet legislative requirements while delivering meaningful progress against our sustainability goals.
About the role
Reporting to the HSES Director, the Environmental Sustainability Officer will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing and continuously improving environmental and sustainability best practice across Artifex. Working closely with site HSES teams and operational leaders, you'll support the development of robust management systems, drive environmental improvement programmes and provide expert guidance on sustainability performance, legislation and compliance.
You'll lead initiatives focused on energy efficiency, carbon reduction, sustainable transport, waste minimisation and circular economy principles, helping Artifex achieve its long-term sustainability strategy. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate environmental professional who wants to influence positive change within a growing manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities
You'll work collaboratively across the business to support environmental and sustainability programmes, management systems and continuous improvement activity. Key areas of focus include supporting ISO management system audits, coordinating sustainability action plans, monitoring and reporting environmental performance, managing energy improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and customer requirements. You'll provide coaching and guidance to management teams, facilitate sustainability committee meetings, maintain legal registers and support the delivery of company-wide HSES programmes. Through effective stakeholder engagement and a practical approach to problem-solving, you'll help embed a culture of environmental responsibility across our sites.
About you
You'll bring experience within an environmental, sustainability or HSES-focused role, ideally within manufacturing, automotive or another production-led environment. You'll have a strong understanding of environmental management systems and relevant legislation, together with experience supporting audits, documentation control and performance reporting. Knowledge of ISO 14001 is essential, while familiarity with ISO 50001, ISO 26000 and IATF 16949 would be advantageous.
You'll be highly organised, confident communicating with stakeholders at all levels and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Most importantly, you'll be passionate about sustainability, committed to continuous improvement and motivated to make a positive impact across the business.
