About Damen Vietnam Shared Services Centre (SSC)
Damen Vietnam Shared Services Centre is part of Damen Group's global shared services organisation. The SSC provides professional support services to various Damen business units worldwide. This position will be employed through the SSC in Vietnam while working closely with the OSV Finance organisation in the Netherlands and supporting shipbuilding projects across Vietnam
The role
As Project Controller, you are responsible for the financial control of a portfolio of shipbuilding projects executed in Vietnam for Damen Offshore & Specialized Vessels, OSV.
Although the position is based at Song Cam Shipyard, OSV builds ships at various Damen and partner shipyards throughout Vietnam. You will therefore support projects across multiple locations and work closely with Project Managers, site teams, shipyards and the OSV Finance organization in the Netherlands.
The role requires frequent travel within Vietnam. Depending on the project portfolio and project phase, you may spend several weeks per month working at other shipyards or project locations.
You monitor project performance, challenge forecasts, analyse margin and cash flow development, and support Project Managers with clear financial insight.
You will typically work on medium-sized or moderately complex projects, while also supporting Senior Project Controllers on larger or higher risk projects. This makes the role suitable for someone with a solid finance foundation who wants to develop further in an international, project driven and technical environment.
You are part of the OSV Finance and Control organization, where Project Control plays a key role in understanding project performance, improving forecast quality and supporting better decision making across the business.
Key responsibilities:
As a Project Controller DS&C, your tasks are the following:
- Maintain a visible presence at the shipyards where OSV vessels are being built and act as the financial counterpart to local Project Managers, site teams and yard management
- Monitor physical progress, project milestones, procurement status and yard activities, and translate these developments into their financial impact
- Verify that reported progress, forecasts and expected costs reflect the actual situation at the shipyard
- Identify emerging cost overruns, delays, scope changes, productivity issues and cash flow risks at an early stage
- Challenge project forecasts and assumptions based on direct observations, discussions with local teams and supporting project documentation
- Monitor project budgets, margins, risks, commitments, cash flow and expected final results
- Prepare periodic project reports, variance analyses and forecast updates for the OSV Finance organization in the Netherlands
- Support Project Managers and site teams with practical financial insight, scenario analyses and decision support
- Monitor the financial consequences of changes in planning, engineering, procurement, production and delivery
- Ensure that project costs, commitments, accruals and progress are recorded accurately and on time
- Review and reconcile financial information received from shipyards, suppliers and local project teams
- Maintain complete and reliable project control files and supporting documentation
- Escalate significant financial or operational issues promptly to the Finance Director OSV and the responsible Project Manager
- Support OSV projects at multiple Damen and partner shipyards throughout Vietnam, including extended periods at locations outside Song Cam
- Strengthen the connection between project execution in Vietnam and project reporting and decision making in the Netherlands
- Contribute to more consistent project control processes, reporting standards and working methods across OSV projects in Vietnam
Skills & experience
To be successful in this role you bring:
- Native Vietnamese speaker with an excellent command of English, both written and spoken
- A completed Bachelor or a Master degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field
- Approximately 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in project controlling, finance, audit, consultancy, project administration or financial analysis
- Experience in a project driven environment is preferred
- Experience in shipbuilding, engineering, construction or manufacturing is an advantage
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate financial information into practical business insights
- Comfortable working with project budgets, forecasts, margins, risks and cash flow
- Proactive, accurate and able to work independently across different locations
- Able to challenge constructively and communicate clearly with both financial and operational stakeholders
- Comfortable working with Excel and financial or ERP systems
- SAP experience is an advantage
- Willing and able to travel frequently within Vietnam and spend several weeks per month at other shipyards when required
