Digital Designer & Copywriter

About the Team: 
For more than 120 years, SCMP has been telling the story of Hong Kong, China and Asia to the world. We're growing our subscription, education and new products, and getting ready to expand into the Greater Bay Area. That means lots of campaigns, lots of ideas, and plenty of room for someone who can make them look and sound great.

Purpose of the Position:
We're looking for a designer with a way with words. You'll create the visuals behind our digital marketing and the promotional moments inside our products, and write the short, sharp copy that goes with them. Most of your time will go to digital design, with the occasional print piece and some brand projects when they come up. You'll sit in the product design team and work closely with marketing, subscription, product and editorial teams.

In this role, you will: 

Digital design and asset creation (~65%)

• Design digital campaign assets, including banners, EDMs, social posts, landing page visuals and ads
• Design the promotional moments inside our products, such as subscription prompts, paywall messaging and in-app banners, and work with product and engineering to get them live
• Build reusable templates and use AI tools to produce variations at scale, so more of your time goes into ideas and quality
• Adapt creative for different platforms and formats quickly and to a high standard

Creative copywriting (~25%)

• Write the copy for our campaigns: banner messages, EDM headlines and subject lines, and social captions
• Contribute ideas to campaigns where the words and visuals work together
• Test different versions of visuals and copy, and use the results (click-through, sign-ups, conversion) to make the next round better

Branding and print design (~10%)

• Help on branding projects when they come up, keeping everything consistent with our brand
• Pick up small print projects, such as adapting digital campaigns into print ads for the newspaper

Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

• 3+ years in graphic or digital design, ideally in-house, at an agency or in a media company
• A portfolio that shows strong digital marketing work
• Confident writing short-form marketing copy, such as headlines, taglines and social captions, with examples to show
• A good eye for layout, typography and visual hierarchy
• Clear, punchy written English, with a feel for tone and for what makes people click
• Comfortable using AI tools in your day-to-day work, with the judgement to know when the output isn't good enough
• Able to juggle several projects and turn work around quickly
• Good knowledge of Figma and Adobe Creative Suite

Candidate with the following skill/experience will be an advantage:

• Knowledge of the Greater Bay Area market and platforms such as WeChat and Xiaohongshu
• Motion or basic video editing skills for social content
• Experience with subscription or conversion-focused marketing

Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
