We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Workers' Compensation Legal Assistant to support a busy and growing Workers' Compensation practice in Fort Lauderdale. This position is ideal for a legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys client interaction, and possesses strong administrative and case management skills.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting attorneys throughout the lifecycle of workers' compensation claims, ensuring exceptional client service and efficient case progression.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management
- Maintain and organize workers' compensation files from intake through resolution.
- Monitor case deadlines, hearings, mediations, and discovery schedules.
- Prepare and file legal pleadings, motions, notices, petitions, and correspondence.
- Request and track medical records, wage records, and claim documentation.
- Coordinate depositions, IMEs, mediations, and hearings.
Client Communication
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, insurance carriers, medical providers, and opposing counsel.
- Provide regular case status updates to clients.
- Schedule appointments and maintain attorney calendars.
- Assist with client intake and gathering case information.
Administrative Support
- Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents and correspondence.
- Manage electronic and paper filing systems.
- Prepare hearing and mediation packets.
- Maintain accurate case notes within the case management system.
- Process incoming mail, emails, and court filings.
Litigation Support
- Assist attorneys with discovery responses and document production.
- Organize exhibits and evidence for hearings and depositions.
- Prepare trial and hearing notebooks.
- Review and summarize medical records and case documents.
Required
- Minimum 2 years of legal assistant experience.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to manage deadlines in a high-volume legal environment.
Preferred
- Previous Workers' Compensation experience in Florida.
- Familiarity with Florida Office of the Judges of Compensation Claims (OJCC) procedures.
- Experience using legal case management software.
- Knowledge of workers' compensation terminology, medical records, and litigation procedures.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
