Job Title
MFT Engineer IJob Description
So, who are we?
IG Group is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses.
The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.
Your Team
You’ll be joining the Managed File Transfer team within IG Group’s Data Infrastructure & Platforms function. Data Infrastructure & Platforms sits at the core of a global, FCA-regulated online trading and financial services group, accountable for the data infrastructure that underpins trading, pricing, risk, compliance, reporting and analytics across the firm.
The team runs GoAnywhere MFT operations, moving business-critical and regulated data securely between internal systems, counterparties and regulators, with 24/7 coverage for the transfers the business depends on.
This is a specialist team with end to end ownership of the platform. You won’t be siloed into a narrow lane, your work is visible across the firm, and everyone’s opinion on how we do things counts.
Your role in the Team’s Success
The transfers this team runs are ones the business cannot operate without. Here’s what success looks like:
You get to the root cause. When a transfer fails, you’re not satisfied with a restart that makes the symptom go away. You want to know why it broke, and you fix it so it stays fixed.
You make sense of what you inherit. This is a live estate built over several years. Some of it is documented well, some of it isn’t. You’re comfortable reading logs, configuration and workflows to work out how something was meant to run, and you improve the documentation as you go.
You unblock people. Application teams across IG depend on MFT to move their data. You understand what they’re trying to achieve and help them get there rather than handing back a ticket.
You automate what you repeat. If you’ve done something manually three times, you’re already thinking about how to script it.
You leave a clear trail. Your notes are what let a colleague pick up where you left off. You write clearly and you keep people informed while you work a problem.
You ask early. The expensive mistake is spending two days stuck on something a colleague could have unblocked in ten minutes.
The best person in this role will be curious about how things work, calm when something breaks, and will leave the platform in a better state than they found it.
What you’ll do
Responsibilities
Keep the GoAnywhere MFT platform available and performing, supporting file flows the business depends on
Monitor transfer jobs, investigate failures and resolve incidents, driving permanent fixes over recurring toil
Support application teams integrating with MFT services, and review workflow designs against best practice
Manage security configurations including PGP and GPG keys, SSH keys, SSL certificates and user access controls, in line with IG security policy
Tune and optimise file transfer jobs, and automate routine operational work to free up engineering time
Maintain clear documentation and runbooks covering operational, security and recovery processes
Work within incident, problem and change management processes to the standard a regulated environment requires
Participate in the team’s on-call rota, providing 24/7 coverage for business-critical transfers
What you’ll need for this role
You’ll need solid experience in:
1 to 3 years in a technical operations, infrastructure, integration or support engineering role, working with production systems
Linux or Unix and Windows administration, with confident command-line use across both
Scripting with Python, Shell (bash or ksh) or PowerShell to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency
File transfer protocols (SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS) and the security technologies around them, including PGP or GPG encryption, SSH keys and SSL/TLS
Handling file-based data, including flat files, CSV, fixed-width formats and encrypted archives, and verifying integrity end to end
Analysis and problem solving, with the ability to work through a complex workflow and diagnose issues quickly
Excellent written and verbal English. You’ll work with application teams and stakeholders across Bangalore and London, so clear, concise updates and incident notes are a primary selection criterion
It would be a bonus if you have:
Hands-on experience with GoAnywhere MFT, or an equivalent such as IBM Sterling, MOVEit or Axway
Experience in fintech, financial services or another regulated industry
Exposure to a 24/7 operational support model in a production environment
Familiarity with ITSM tooling and formal change and incident management processes
Exposure to cloud platforms, particularly GCP
