Description
GENERAL ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN II
Under general supervision, serve as a leader of a small crew of workers performing routine tasks involved in a variety of city services. These tasks range from engaging in work ground maintenance activities, landscape, and/or floriculturist activities conducted at park facilities (including parks, special facilities, green houses and gardens), recreation areas, public buildings, parkways, berm areas and other municipal properties.
- Lead a small crew of workers engaged in clearing, cleaning, grading, and leveling land; upon completion of prepare records of the activities.
- Excavate for and repair water and sewage lines; clean catch basins, wading pools, and canals.
- Seed, sod, and water grass areas; plant, remove and mulch trees, shrubs, and evergreens.
- Assist staff in planting bulbs, annuals, perennials and other seasonal crops.
- Sweep, shovel snow, clean and remove trash; load and unload shipments and perform other manual labor and lifting.
- Load and unload equipment and supplies; clean and sweep public grounds, building, and exhibits.
- Repair concrete and asphalt hard surface areas.
- Erect and repair fences, backstops, and guard rails.
- Prepare, paint, and make minor repairs to park and playground equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or G.E. D.
- Two (2) years experience in grounds maintenance work, landscape and/or greenhouse work.
- Valid State of Michigan Operator License; employees in the class will be required, when necessary, to operate a motor vehicle.
- Employees are required to wear appropriate safety attire in accordance with departmental and OSHA safety regulations.

Physical DemandsThe employee generally engages in light to strenuous physical activity which may include operating machinery, motor vehicles, and using tools for an extended period of time.
The employee is expected to move about and ascend/descend (e.g. stairs, ladders etc.) to accomplish tasks.
The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure to conditions which may include fumes, extreme heat and cold, wetness, loud noise, dust, inclement weather and hazardous chemicals.
Some work requires travel to meetings, conferences, and other work sites with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
