Description of Work

The primary purpose of this position is to direct the job performance of staff assigned to Vocational Enterprises and to administer the employment and job readiness programs at Murdoch Developmental Center. This requires assurance of the availability of appropriate vocational training opportunities for the individuals living at the Center; monitoring systems to ensure that individual goals/activities are implemented as scheduled; monitoring to ensure required documentation is consistently completed correctly within established time frames; and oversight of the physical environment to ensure risk of accident or injury to workers and staff is minimized. This position is also responsible for ensuring meaningful employment experiences are provided to individuals with a wide range of vocational abilities and needs; workers are paid minimum wage as set by the State Department of Labor; required Work Choice Agreements are maintained, and the program operates within its budget as defined by state and program generated monies. This position is responsible administratively for a total of 34 employees and 8 reporting directly to this position.

ALL employees of Murdoch are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $43,267 - $75,718

  • Thorough knowledge of principles and effective training techniques and programming strategies for working with individuals who have I/DD, including knowledge of evidence-based behavior management techniques.

  • Experience leading innovative employment efforts for people with I/DD.

  •  Skill in organizing and managing a multi-component program, including the ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with staff, a variety of service disciplines, and community agencies/industries.

  •  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and functionally use MS Office to create basic word processing documents and spread sheets.

  •  Experience hiring, coordinating and supervising staff, including experience with formal Performance Management protocols such as Work Performance Management.

Successful applicant must have ability to obtain certification in facility-based

de-escalation and physical intervention program and First Aid and CPR certifications.

Normal working hours are Monday-Friday 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. Some flexibility required to meet the center's needs.

Recruitment Pattern A/Production Bachelor’s degree in industrial systems technology, industrial engineering, or business management from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in supervisory/management work in production, purchasing, or related work which must have provided exposure to the population to be served; or Associate’s degree in industrial systems technology, industrial engineering, or business management from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in production, trades, or related work, one year of which must have provided exposure to the population to be served; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
