JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State is searching for a full time General Helper-Repairer (Abington) - Grade 7 to join the team. Duties include:
- Sweep, mop, buff, and clean buildings and storerooms
- Clean student rooms during semester breaks as specified
- Make routine and minor maintenance repairs to heating equipment to include the replacement of thermostats and the replacement of valves on radiators
- Perform routine electrical maintenance including removal, replacement, and routine repairs to light fixtures(ballasts and starters), emergency lights, switches, outlets, etc.; Relamp areas as required; replace plugs on lamps, etc.
- Perform interior maintenance painting of buildings and equipment
- Perform minor carpentry work such as installing locks, door closers, hinges, screens, etc.
- Repair minor damage to wall board and drywall
- Reinstall locks into doors; remove and replace lock cores; perform routine replacement of internal lock parts
- Perform routine plumbing repairs such as changing faucets and shower washers, unclogging shower drains and toilets, etc.
- Operate portable electric tools such as drills, power saws, etc.
- Perform minor repair work to floors, including carpet, vinyl tiles, etc.
- Assist in the collection and delivery of laundry items to residence halls
- Replace interior/exterior lightbulbs, fuses, exit signs, as required
- Check smoke detectors
- Install and repair traverse rods, drapes and venetian blinds, and bulletin boards
- Move equipment, furniture and construction equipment
- Operate university vehicle, check oil level, gasoline, tire pressure, etc.
- Install thermopane replacement glass in residence hall windows; wash as required
- Clean snow and ice off bridges and walkways
- Repair and replace toilet partitions
- Lock and unlock residence halls as required
- Keep inventory of tools and equipment; maintain area in a clean and orderly condition
- Keep supervisor informed of needed repairs and/or damages as they are observed
Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Over 9 up to and including 12 months of effective experience.
Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
