Job Description
The Stewarding Supervisor is responsible for supervising daily stewarding operations and ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and efficiency within kitchen and food-service areas at an exclusive luxury destination.
The role leads the stewarding team, coordinates cleaning and equipment-support activities, and works closely with the culinary and operational departments to ensure smooth and professional service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the stewarding team.
- Prepare duty schedules, assign work areas, and allocate cleaning and equipment-support responsibilities.
- Ensure all kitchen areas, workstations, floors, walls, sinks, storage areas, and service zones are cleaned and sanitized to the required standard.
- Supervise the washing, sanitizing, drying, polishing, and storage of crockery, cutlery, glassware, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Ensure dishwashing and cleaning equipment is operated safely and maintained in good working condition.
- Coordinate the timely delivery of clean equipment, utensils, and service items to the culinary and Food and Beverage teams.
- Support the kitchen team before, during, and after regular service, private functions, events, and special occasions.
- Monitor hygiene, sanitation, waste-management, pest-prevention, and cleaning standards.
- Ensure cleaning chemicals, tools, equipment, and supplies are used, stored, and handled correctly.
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning schedules, equipment condition, breakages, shortages, stock usage, and maintenance concerns.
- Monitor and control the use of cleaning materials and stewarding supplies.
- Conduct regular inspections of stewarding areas, equipment, storage rooms, waste areas, and service spaces.
- Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment to the Maintenance Manager or relevant department.
- Coordinate with Kitchen, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Stores, Maintenance, Security, and other departments as required.
- Train, coach, and guide stewarding team members on cleaning procedures, safe chemical handling, hygiene, equipment operation, and workplace safety.
- Monitor team attendance, punctuality, grooming, conduct, productivity, and adherence to procedures.
- Assist with stock counts, requisitions, storage, and replenishment of stewarding supplies.
- Ensure correct waste separation, disposal, recycling, and collection procedures are followed.
- Support audits, inspections, risk assessments, and health and safety initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding clients, private functions, organizational activities, and operational matters.
- Perform other reasonable duties assigned by management.
Desired Skill & Expertise
- Previous experience as a Stewarding Supervisor, Senior Steward, Kitchen Steward, or in a similar supervisory role.
- Experience within a luxury, premium, private, corporate, lifestyle, or high-end environment is preferred.
- Good knowledge of cleaning, sanitation, dishwashing, waste management, and kitchen-support procedures.
- Experience supervising, training, and developing a stewarding or cleaning team.
- Knowledge of food-safety, hygiene, chemical handling, manual handling, and workplace-safety practices.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot basic dishwashing and cleaning equipment.
- Good organizational, communication, and team-management skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, public holidays, and busy service periods.
- Physically fit and able to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
