Position Overview

The Facilities Technician directly affects the quality of the student training and staff satisfaction by providing a physical environment that is a source of pride. This position maintains facilities, training yards and labs, grounds, parking lots, tools, and vehicles and equipment in a proactive manner. The individual in this role will manage material inventory under the direction of the Facilities Manager and assist the custodial team members during peak times of business as needed.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Ensure facilities, training yards, labs, grounds, parking lots, tools, and vehicles and equipment are maintained, function efficiently and have a clean appearance.
  • Maintain shop area, tools, and equipment in a safe and organized format to minimize theft and ensure they are operating properly.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager in coordinating the work of contractors related to maintenance or improvement projects.
  • Purchase parts, equipment, and supplies as needed for facilities, training yards and labs, grounds, and vehicles. Compares and confirms packing slip info matches orders to verify shipment agains purchase orders in the ERP system. Checks items to be shipped against work orders for accuracy.
  • Assist with the set-up of facilities for meetings, classroom events, conferences, general campus events; may work individually or as a team for set-up and tear-down.
  • Assist with custodial duties as assigned by Facilities Manager.
  • Act as primary point of contact for all shipments arriving on campus, receives and unloads all incoming materials, uses RFSmart technology and bar-code system to manage accurate inventory levels, inspects and ensures material for quality and specifications and follow ups with the vendor regarding damaged and incorrect shipments, prepares shipments for postal and commercial conveyance, selects appropriate shipping containers, and packs items to ensure safe delivery.
  • Maintains various training facilities, inventory, and maintenance reports.

Required Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years prior work experience in warehouse maintenance, vehicle maintenance, general construction, and facility repairs, or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and be able to obtain a Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement and Certified Forklift Operator’s license during first year of employment.

Technical Requirements/ Core Competencies

  • Ability to implement and communicate safety compliance, signage, and visible reporting in areas of responsibility
  • Proven experience in Receiving/ Inventory/ Warehousing Knowledge
  • Ability to use basic office and web-based software (MS Office suite, particulary Excel, Smartsheet, Salesforce)
  • Working knowlege of logistics software (ERP)
  • Ability to operate large equipment (forklift, skid steer, bucket truck, trailers, tractor, backhoe, and yard equipment) safely and with ease
  • Experienced in the use of power and hand tools
  • Excellent communication and listening skills in English (oral & written)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to complete large projects with tight deadlines
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and detail oriented
  • Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance and repair (engines, brakes, hydraulics), carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and system repair and maintenance (HVAC)
  • Skilled in landscape maintenance (sprinkler systems, tree trimming, mowing, etc.)
