NCSSM and ITS foster an environment of collaboration across departments and divisions and support community-engaged service and research.

Description of Duties:
This position has a flexible/hybrid 1-day remote option.

This position is responsible for overseeing the organization’s endpoint devices, including computers, mobile devices, and peripherals. Responsibilities include making recommendations for and assisting with the procurement of computing devices, including both Windows-based and Apple devices, as well as managing assets, maintaining inventory, and coordinating surplus processes. The position ensures that devices are properly imaged, deployed, managed, maintained, and optimized to meet the needs of the organization and its users, utilizing imaging solutions such as Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and device management tools such as NinjaOne and Jamf Pro.

This position also serves as a Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 escalation point for end-user support, focusing on advanced problem-solving, complex issue resolution, and thorough documentation. Additionally, the position maintains and administers various enterprise-wide applications and systems. The role also includes project management, committee participation, and cross-divisional collaboration to support organizational technology needs.

Systems Administration & Endpoint Architecture:
*Hardware Evaluation & Procurement Architecture: Formulate technical standards, evaluate emerging hardware solutions, and lead the regular procurement recommendations for enterprise computing devices and peripherals (Windows and Apple) across both physical campuses (Durham and Morganton) and online programs.
*UEM & Systems Architecture: Architect, configure, and maintain Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) platforms (e.g., Jamf Pro and NinjaOne) to manage, patch, and secure enterprise endpoints across all campuses and distance-learning programs.
*Automated Provisioning & Imaging: Develop customized hardware images, automated provisioning workflows, and OS deployment scripts to maintain fleet health, security compliance, and standardized configurations across all institutionally-owned equipment.
*Systems Analysis & Escalated Support: Serve as the Tier 2 and Tier 3 escalation authority for enterprise hardware, software, operating systems, and identity management (handling institutional and BYOD environments); analyze Help Desk trends to identify recurring system failures and engineer network-wide technical solutions.
*Identity & Onboarding Workflows: Administer technical IT onboarding workflows for new NCSSM-Durham staff, automating account provisioning, access controls, and system integration.
*Technical Architecture Documentation: Design and author technical documentation, enterprise standard operating procedures (SOPs), system administration guides, and technical knowledge base resources for the broader community.
*Multi-Campus Infrastructure Support: Deliver specialized engineering and technical support on-site for the Durham campus and remotely for the Morganton campus.

Enterprise Applications & Operational Support:
*Enterprise Application Administration: Administer, troubleshoot, and maintain core enterprise application platforms spanning both physical campuses, including Google Workspace, SIS (Blackbaud), Microsoft 365 / Active Directory, Linux servers, VoIP (Dialpad), videoconferencing platforms (Zoom and Google Meet), PaperCut print management, and Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) platforms.
*System Maintenance & Backup Verification: Perform routine maintenance, execute software updates, and ensure quality and timely data backups across administrative applications and platform databases.
*Classroom & AV Systems Infrastructure: Assist with the implementation, routine updates, back-up verification, and technical support for classroom technology, in-room AV infrastructure, and hardware systems on the Durham campus.

Technical Project Management & Cross-Divisional Collaboration:
*Technical Requirements Gathering: Consult directly with institutional departments and cross-divisional staff to analyze technical needs, gather operational requirements, and scope IT projects.
*Operational Lifecycle Management: Manage device and application operational lifecycles by evaluating hardware/software demands, assessing capacity requirements, and validating procurement requests for computing devices and peripherals.
*Implementation & Root-Cause Engineering: Lead the technical execution of system modifications and infrastructure solutions derived from ticketing metrics and systems analysis.
*Vendor & Asset Resource Liaison: Serve as the technical liaison with external hardware/software vendors, evaluating technical specifications, managing site operational asset resources, and negotiating technical support requirements.
*Cross-Functional System Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams (infrastructure, security, application services) to align endpoint configurations with enterprise-wide security and networking protocols.

Operational Help Desk & Inventory Oversight:
*Tier 1 Intake & Help Desk Coverage: Provide secondary, shared in-person presence at the Help Desk to perform initial triage, basic user support, and ticket intake.
*Service Request Triage & Logging: Diagnose and resolve frontline service requests, accurately logging issues within the enterprise ticketing system to generate trend data for higher-level systems analysis.
*Asset Lifecycle Tracking & Surplus: Oversee day-to-day physical asset tracking, maintain equipment logs, and execute routine surplus processing in compliance with institutional and state policies.
