Job Title: Professional Engineer
Salary: Market related and negotiable based on experience
Base Centre/Station: Pretoria East
Appointment type: Permanent / Consultant / Fixed Contract Period - subject to candidate availability
Job Description
Primary function: Onsite inspections and condition assessment of equipment and plant, consolidating findings, approval of observations made by team members, technical evaluation, structural assessment, report compilation, final sign-off and presentations.
Secondary: Compiling proposals, executing engineering design projects, design calculations, design- and drawing reviews, failure analyses, root cause analyses and FEA.
Required to manage, coordinate and oversee the implementation of various engineering projects and the sign-off of design projects, design calculation and manufacturing drawings.
This position reports to the Lead Mechanical Engineer and the candidate interfaces with team members (i.e., Engineers, LMI’s, electrical specialists, technologists, etc.).
Specific duties include (additional to abovementioned, but not limited to):
- Successful execution of onsite projects & inspection programs
- Management & guidance of inspection/ design team (i.e., tech and Health & Safety)
- Participation in strategic planning process
- Technical experience (engineering inspections and assessments)
- Application of engineering standards, legislations, good engineering practices and regulations (Able to condense complex and new systems)
- Project management/ coordination & Leadership
- Provide professional and technical advice and engineering support services
- Repair procedures and compiling Scope of Works
Specific Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering Degree (BEng or BSc Eng)
- 5-7 years post qualification experience
- Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or in process thereof
- Previous experience with Solidworks (or other CAD software)
- Previous experience with Prokon will be advantageous
- Experience in studying & utilizing international standards/codes
- Proficient with Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Programming experience will be beneficial
- Able to conduct training/ masterclasses and seminars as and where required
- Regular communication/liaison with clients
- Able to display strategic capability and leadership
- Good technical report writing skills, taking initiative when information is lacking
- Able to identify and exploit growth and opportunities within industry

- ECSA Registration – Maintenance of PrEng
- Planned development program (scheduled courses & seminars) - ongoing
- Mentor for engineers in training
Specializes in engineering inspections & condition assessments of physical assets (cranes, hoists & lifting machines etc.), culminating into technical reports & recommendations. Also undertakes project management/ coordination, design projects, drawings, investigation analyses, failure analyses, repair procedures and/or quality control/ assurance specifications.
