Description
Summary:
Handles all materials safely and efficiently that are received from the fabrication department. Coordinates the movement and flow of materials into the department. Performs drilling and basic welding on special orders before the material is handled on the conveyor line. Assembles, hoists, and lifts materials onto conveyor line. After washing, painting, and baking is completed (by the machines and painters), remove the materials from conveyor lines, organize it, and deliver it to the assembly department. Performs all activities with attention to quality and assists in ensuring an appropriate flow of material through the department. Works in all areas of the department that involve material handling and preventative maintenance.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Quality
Participates in corporate programs and initiatives. Performs responsibilities to meet requirements of internal and external customers. Performs job responsibilities with attention to quality and continuous improvement. Selects and evaluates material. Rejects defective material. Brings defects to the attention of the group leader.
Material Coordination
Learns all fabricated parts and materials used in production (over 100). Reviews job orders received from group leader; determines the materials and parts to be pulled from the staging area. Carefully counts and procures the necessary materials from the staging area. Uses a hand truck to move pieces. Maintains a stock list of materials needed. Contacts the appropriate department to ensure materials are fabricated in a timely basis. Uses computers to inspect orders.
Pre-Assembly
If the job order requires, drill holes in fabricated material and/or welds (tig welder).
Material Handling - Incoming
Reviews job orders to ensure that the correct material is being processed. Works closely with the material coordinator and fork truck operator to ensure proper parts are available and that the proper sequence is being followed. Performs basic assembly using pneumatic screw gun. Gathers screws and other parts; places housing on hoist and assembles. Changes hooks on conveyor line to prepare for different material. Places, lifts, or hoists different sized material on to the hooks on the conveyor line. Ensures that materials are safely placed. Determines when a color change is necessary and hangs tags to indicate so to the painter. Notifies the group leader immediately when problems arise. Material Handling - Outgoing
Reviews job orders and compares it to the material (semi-finished product that is now painted). Takes the material off the hooks by gloved hand or by using the hoist. Counts the material and groups it together in the proper sequences for use by the assembly department. Places the job order and label with the appropriate job. Inspects painted material for defects. Uses spray paint can touch up minor defects. Rejects major defects. Must be careful not to injure the painted material. Performs basic assembly (bearings, clips, etc.). Installs casters. Prepares wood pallets (with nail gun) to be used to place the material (housings) on. Places housings on pallets. Sends semi-finished products (material) to the assembly department (heavy parts or light parts areas). When problems arise, notify the group leader immediately.
Preventive Maintenance
Performs maintenance on conveyor line and work area (grease parts, check filters, and clean hooks). Clean under paint booths, in paint booths, and in washers. Notifies group leader of problems.
Safety and Housekeeping
Conforms to Health and Safety requirements and company policy. Adheres to machine and conveyor line safety guidelines. Wears required safety apparel, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, and back braces. Wears required hearing protection. Uses proper lifting techniques to lift up to 75 lbs., anything over 75 pounds with apparatus assistance. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Results in products of high finished quality and satisfied customers as well as reduced rework.

Physical Requirements:
- Very heavy physical requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, anything over 40 pounds with apparatus assistance.
- Move up to 180 pounds.
- Always twisting, turning, bending, lifting, walking and standing.
Working Conditions/Environment:
Overall, plant conditions good. Seasonal heat and drafts. Job hazards around machinery. Possible hazards due to improper handling and unsafe equipment operation.
Mental Requirements:
Ability to read, write, perform basic math calculations, and communicate clearly.
Ability to organize and coordinate tasks; inspect, estimate, interpret, and use judgment.
The Hourly rate for this position is $19.00 - $19.00This is the lowest to highest hourly rate we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. The hourly rate offered within the range may vary depending on multiple factors including job level, geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and in compliance with local wage requirements.
