You’ll deliver exclusive, high-impact political journalism focused on NSW from Macquarie Street to the issues shaping households, businesses and communities across the state.

We’re looking for someone who backs their instincts, moves fast, hunts hard and knows how to turn a lead into the story everyone else is forced to chase.

What’s the role?

  • Identify, develop and own sharp, relevant angles across state politics, policy, campaigns, government and the issues affecting people across NSW

  • Produce clean, accurate and engaging content across print, video and digital channels with a strong focus on exclusives and subscriber value

  • Drive subscription growth and digital audience engagement through original journalism that readers can’t get elsewhere

  • Lead with ideas, energy and ambition, and bring a digital-first mindset to every story

  • Use audience data and analytics to spot trends, understand what resonates and sharpen coverage for maximum impact

  • Build strong contacts across state politics, government, opposition, advisers, stakeholders and communities across NSW

  • Bring public policy, power, personalities and political conflict to life in a way that is compelling, accessible and authoritative

  • Use the full range of digital storytelling tools, including video, live coverage, graphics and interactives, to elevate your reporting

Who are you?

  • You have strong newsroom and writing experience, with a solid understanding of politics, government and how policy becomes law

  • You know NSW politics or can quickly get across the players, pressure points and power shifts that matter

  • You’re based in Sydney and ready to cover the state political round with urgency, tenacity and flair

  • You have first-rate interviewing skills, strong news judgement and the curiosity to chase the story behind the spin

  • You’re competitive, self-driven and hungry to land exclusives

  • You’re accurate, fast and meticulous, with excellent spelling and grammar

  • You understand what makes readers subscribe and how to deliver journalism that keeps them coming back

  • SEO and social media experience are an advantage

  • You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom

  • You care about telling stories that matter to the community and holding power to account
