Schedule: Evening Shift | Days Vary | 11:00 AM–7:00 PM
Hours: 45 hours per pay period
Pay Range: $48.90–$73.00 per hour
Job Overview
A leading healthcare organization is seeking a skilled MRI Technologist to join its outpatient imaging team on a part-time basis.
The MRI Technologist will perform routine and specialized MRI examinations while ensuring patient safety, image quality, and compliance with established imaging protocols. This position is responsible for preparing and positioning patients, operating MRI equipment, assisting radiologists during procedures, and providing compassionate care to patients of all ages.
The ideal candidate will be an ARRT-certified MRI Technologist who is comfortable working independently, supporting multiple outpatient locations, and adapting to changing operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized MRI examinations according to physician orders and established protocols
- Prepare and position patients accurately for each examination
- Complete required MRI safety screenings and body-part questionnaires
- Educate patients and family members about the examination and address questions or concerns
- Produce high-quality diagnostic images and review completed studies for accuracy and completeness
- Document required patient, procedural, and imaging information
- Assist radiologists and physicians during procedures as needed
- Administer intravenous contrast after completing the required IV certification
- Monitor patients throughout procedures and respond appropriately to changes in condition
- Provide age-appropriate care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Perform equipment calibrations and quality-assurance testing
- Maintain the cleanliness and readiness of MRI rooms, equipment, coils, and accessories
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions to department leadership
- Present images to radiologists and communicate urgent or STAT findings to the appropriate physician when directed
- Document physician communication according to departmental procedures
- Create patient imaging CDs when requested
- Assist with outpatient office functions, including answering phones, checking in patients, and obtaining previous reports or images
- Notify front-desk personnel when examinations are complete
- Serve as an instructor or preceptor when assigned
- Attend department meetings, educational programs, and required in-service training
- Provide rotational coverage at other outpatient imaging locations
- Support emergency, holiday, overtime, or alternate-shift coverage when operationally necessary
- Perform other imaging and department responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited radiography school or hospital-based imaging program
- ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, ARRT(MR), upon hire
- Current New York State Department of Health Radiologic Technologist license upon hire
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire
- IV certification within 180 days of hire
- Strong knowledge of MRI safety practices, screening requirements, and imaging protocols
- Ability to move throughout all MRI safety zones to access patients, equipment, coils, and documentation
- Ability to inspect and monitor patients throughout MRI examinations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to provide accurate information to patients regarding procedures and administrative or financial questions
- Ability to operate computers, imaging systems, and standard office equipment
- Flexibility to provide coverage at multiple outpatient locations
- Ability to work varying days and support additional shifts when needed
Preferred
- One to three years of MRI Technologist experience
- Previous outpatient imaging experience
- Experience performing specialized MRI procedures
- Experience administering intravenous contrast
- Previous preceptor or clinical training experience
- Experience working with patients across the lifespan
