Monday-Friday: 8am-5pm Redmond COPA 

The Opportunity

As a Medical Interpreter at COPA, you’ll play an important role in creating a welcoming, accessible healthcare experience for children and families. You’ll provide accurate Spanish interpretation during appointments, by phone, and across COPA’s clinics, helping patients, families, and care teams communicate clearly and confidently. You’ll also help families understand care plans, navigate referrals and community resources, stay connected to preventive care, and access the information they need to support their child’s health.  The Job

• Provide accurate Spanish interpretation for patients, families, providers, and staff during in-person visits and by phone across COPA clinics.
• Translate medical and patient education materials from English to Spanish while following COPA standards and the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Health Care.
• Help families understand diagnoses, treatment plans, preventive care recommendations, and important safety information while supporting clear communication and trust with their care team.
• Help patients navigate COPA and community resources, including referrals, specialty care, nurse advice, Poison Control, and other services that support their child’s health.
• Support interpreter scheduling and ongoing interpreter training while traveling between COPA locations as needed and partnering with care teams to create a welcoming, family-friendly experience.

Requirements

Education and Certification

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification from Medical Interpreting program recognized by the Oregon Health Authority required.

Experience

• Minimum 3 year of customer service required; medical interpreting and medical office experience preferred.
• Fluency in Spanish and English. Current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures. Ability to translate critical medical information precisely and accurately from English to Spanish. Spanish language written translation skills.
• Clerical experience in clinical setting desired. Intermediate and advanced phone, verbal and computer skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks. Ability to handle the changing needs of the department and organization.
• Epic EMR experience preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements

• Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level in person, over the telephone or through use of other required technology. Sitting or standing for long periods of time. Frequent repetitive motion includes computer keyboard use, reaching with hands and arms, and walking. Occasional lifting and or moving up to 30 pounds and on rare occasion up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include viewing computer monitor for long periods of time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Working Conditions

• Work inside in a general medical office setting with ergonomically configured equipment.
• The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals including odors. The employee has been identified as having the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, therefore are included in the OSHA Exposure Control Plan with specification for preventing contact with the above materials.
• Travel between COPA clinics and business office as required.
• Must be flexible and willing to work any COPA site during the evenings, weekdays and weekends as needed by organization for coverage purposes.
