Gloucester County Department of Park Operations is on the lookout for a dynamic and experienced individual to join us full-time as a Park Supervisor overseeing Operations. We'd love to hear from someone passionate about making our parks the best they can be!

Under general supervision of the Parks Superintendent, the Park Supervisor plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in the day-to-day operation, maintenance, safety, security, and public use of Beaverdam Park and other County Park facilities as assigned. The Park Operations Supervisor provides direct supervision and leadership to full-time and part-time park staff, seasonal employees, volunteers, and other assigned workers. Responsibilities include recruitment and hiring; staff scheduling, training, and performance management; grounds, buildings, trails, waterfront, and facility maintenance; equipment and asset inventory management; workplace and public safety; customer service; facility reservations and rentals; park programming and special events; and enforcement of established park rules and regulations. The employee exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment in organizing daily operations, establishing work priorities, addressing maintenance and safety concerns, resolving customer and operational issues, and ensuring park facilities are maintained and operated in a safe, clean, efficient, and professional manner. The position works closely with other County departments, contractors, vendors, community organizations, emergency services, park patrons, and the general public and requires professionalism, tact, sound judgment, and effective communication.

• Supervises Park operations and personnel.
• Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates staff. 
• Coordinates staff scheduling and accountability. 
• Oversees park grounds, facilities, and maintenance. 
• Coordinates preventive maintenance and manages equipment and assets. 
• Manages supplies, materials, and purchasing.
• Oversees workplace safety and hazard communication.
• Promotes public safety and compliance with park regulations. 
• Oversees daily public operations and facility use. 
• Provides customer service and manages revenue-related activities. 
• Supports programs, special events, and community activities. 
• Coordinates with other County departments and outside organizations. 
• Assists with park improvements and capital projects.
•  Maintains records and communicates operational needs.

• High school diploma or GED required, supplemented by college coursework, technical training, professional certifications, or other education related to parks and recreation, natural resource management, grounds maintenance, facility management, public administration, or a related field.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in park operations, grounds or facility maintenance, recreation, natural resource management, or a closely related field, including at least two (2) years of supervisory or lead-worker experience.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  

• Possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record that meets established Gloucester County driving standards.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within a timeframe established by the County, current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
• Completion of an approved boating safety and/or boat-handling course when required for assigned duties.
• Completion of Commonwealth of Virginia-approved mandated reporter/child protection training when required for assigned duties.
• Ability to successfully complete any required post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and subsequent job-related examinations as required by the County.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and during emergency situations as operational needs require.

Desired Special Qualifications:

• Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI).
• Virginia Registered Technician or Commercial Pesticide Applicator certification in applicable categories.
• Certified Fertilizer Applicator certification, when applicable to assigned responsibilities.
• Relevant certifications or training in park and recreation operations, turf and grounds management, natural resource management, facility maintenance, chainsaw operation, boating/water safety, emergency response, occupational safety, or hazard communication.
• Experience supervising employees in a public park, recreation, grounds-maintenance, facility-management, or similar environment.
  Experience operating and maintaining commercial grounds equipment, utility vehicles, boats, trailers, and related park-maintenance equipment.
