Description

The Fraud Manager leads the Credit Union's fraud prevention and loss mitigation efforts, overseeing fraud operations, investigations, risk assessments, and recovery activities. This role develops strategies, processes, and controls to minimize fraud losses while ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.

The Fraud Manager also leads and develops the Fraud Department team, partners with business units to strengthen fraud controls, and stays current on emerging fraud trends, industry practices, regulations, and technology to continuously improve the Credit Union's fraud risk management program.

This position will be fully onsite at our offices in Austin, TX.


In this role with UHCU you will get to:

  • Lead and develop the Fraud Department team through coaching, training, performance management, and professional development.
  • Establish departmental goals, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and report fraud trends, losses, and performance to senior management.
  • Provide strategic oversight of fraud risk and loss mitigation across all products, channels, and payment systems.
  • Develop and implement proactive fraud prevention strategies, controls, and processes to reduce fraud exposure and financial losses.
  • Analyze fraud losses, trends, and root causes to identify opportunities for improved prevention and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee fraud investigations, transaction disputes, account monitoring, and suspicious activity reporting to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing.
  • Monitor and optimize fraud detection rules, alerts, thresholds, and transaction surveillance controls based on emerging threats and fraud trends.
  • Evaluate fraud technology and recommend new solutions or providers that improve fraud detection, prevention, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain fraud and dispute policies, procedures, best practices, and standardized response processes.
  • Support escalated, complex, or unusual fraud cases while ensuring sound judgment, effective loss prevention, and a positive member experience.
  • Educate branches and other departments on fraud trends, prevention strategies, investigation practices, and appropriate response procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement, financial institutions, payment networks, and industry organizations to support fraud prevention and recovery efforts.

What you will need to succeed:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Within the past 5 years, a minimum of 5 years' relevant, recent fraud prevention experience in financial services operations, compliance, or fraud investigations including significant analytical experience and knowledge of techniques used to mitigate and manage fraud with a financial institution, credit related company or law enforcement with a proven record of accomplishment of designing, implementing and administrating fraud programs.
  • Minimum of 5 years' supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with fraud technology and platforms used in authentication and money movement risk solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of the fraud management life cycle and industry trends, including fraud mitigation, cyber fraud, financial crimes, and e-commerce fraud.
  • A strong working knowledge of state and federal regulations relating to credit union fraud and transaction disputes.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Anti-Fraud Specialist (CAFS) certification.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
