Employment Status: Full Time. Non-exempt. 40 hours/week.
Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Wellness Center Specialist is to oversee and deliver engaging wellness programming that promotes healthy aging through fitness, education, and resident engagement. Responsibilities include developing and coordinating wellness events and activities, leading safe and effective group exercise classes, providing one-on-one personal training, and collaborating with the Rehabilitation Department to complete Wellness Assessments and support residents transitioning into post-therapy exercise programs. This position also partners with the Life Enrichment team to support wellness and recreational programming within our licensed neighborhoods as needed, helping foster meaningful opportunities for resident engagement throughout the community.
Wellness Programming & Resident Fitness
- Provide wellness programming and collaborate with the Life Enrichment Coordinator to develop creative, engaging programs that promote resident health and well-being.
- Strive to sustain and increase resident participation in wellness programming.
- Teach high-quality group exercise classes that are safe, effective, varied, and engaging in accordance with industry standards and ACSM guidelines.
- Utilize proper exercise technique, clear verbal instruction, and appropriate modifications to meet participant needs.
- Develop and implement individualized exercise programs based on residents' health status, fitness goals, medical conditions, and ACSM guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Therapy & Rehabilitation Department to complete annual Wellness Assessments
- Maintain accurate resident fitness files, including physical abilities, progress, and relevant medical history.
Resident Safety, Wellness Center Operations & Communication
- Monitor resident participation in wellness activities and promptly report any significant health, wellness, or safety concerns to the Life Enrichment Coordinator.
- Demonstrate a commitment to resident safety by following established safety procedures and maintaining a safe environment.
- Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations, sharing information only with appropriate personnel as necessary.
- Maintain the Wellness Center in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Ensure fitness equipment is cleaned, properly maintained, and report equipment concerns as appropriate.
- Communicate pertinent resident information, scheduling concerns, and operational updates to the supervisor on a regular basis.
- Work collaboratively with the Rehabilitation Department, Life Enrichment team, and other departments to support resident wellness initiatives and community goals.
Professionalism & Compliance
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and community standards.
- Attend all required meetings, in-services, and training sessions.
- Complete all required training in accordance with federal and state regulations, as well as company and community policies.
- Demonstrate professionalism through dependability, reliability, punctuality, and preparedness for work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Two years of experience in wellness/fitness or a combination of education and experience in field.
- Knowledge of proper exercising technique according to industry standards as set forth by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
- First Aid and CPR certifications required upon employment.
- Experience instructing group/individual exercise preferred, willing to become certified.
- Ability to assist in developing and implementing senior specific wellness programming.
- Strong verbal/written communication and computer skills.
- Ability to work independently without close supervision.
- Ability to work with confidential information and maintain its’ integrity.
- Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach to engaging with all individuals.
Work Environment: This job operates in an environment with exercise rooms and office space with normal lighting levels, temperature ranges, air quality, ventilation and noise levels. Special events, temperatures vary with the season and location.
Work Schedule: Work assignments and schedules are based on resident needs/staffing requirements but the schedule will usually average 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

The employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time. Additionally, employee will routinely sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 30 lbs. or less and occasionally more than 40 lbs. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
Work Hazards: General hazards related to operation and maintenance of fitness equipment. Minimal hazards if universal precautions are followed.
Salary or Wage Description:
$16.21 - $24.28/hr
