Global Transport Director

Purpose of the function

How does the function Transport contribute in TVH?

Transport as part of the P&P and Operations team is a key function to oversee, plan and execute the overall transportation activities globally across multi-site distribution networks and multiple operating regions within TVH. 

• Accountable for day-to-day operational excellence and execution of local/regional transport activities

• Accountable for the optimization, administration, planning and improving of transport set-ups

• Responsible to secure continuous improvement of transport processes

• Responsible to support operational and digital transformation of transport processes in alignment with the company’s strategy 

• Responsible to secure day-to-day compliant work according to local customs regulations, health, safety and environment

• Accountable to optimize TVH CO2 emission footprint within the scope of transportation

• Contributor to great customer experience, cost optimized, with high precision in execution and at the same time affordable transport service

• Accountable for international trade compliance, managing global tariff classifications, customs broker performance and tariff refund optimization

Assignments of the job

• Responsible for global transport function as part of the P&P and Operations team

• Overseeing global traffic plans, costs & providing flexibility to regional teams within the global Transport budget

• Accountable for global carrier management and supporting key account negotiations on a global level 

• Accountable for contract management of selected carriers

• Representing TVH values in partnership development with relevant carriers

• Accountable for achieving optimized transportation cost levels with alignment on service level expectations from the regional sales leaders/General Managers

• As a member of the Operations Management Team, responsible to strategically lead and develop the Transportation agenda and represent Transportation in the relevant cross-functional Steering Commitees and working group meetings. 

• Accountable for leading, coaching, developing and inspiring a high performing Transportation team including communication, agility, performance culture, competence development and succession planning.

• Promoting strong relationship building with regional commercial teams as well as within the P&P and Operations management team. 

• Accountable for promoting and stimulating entrepreneurial culture, proactive solution and execution orientation and innovation in line with technology development

Competences

Knowledge

• Understanding of TVH business model, the strategic landscape and ways of working

• Good business understanding, what are the important key performance indicators used to plan, follow up, and steer the business with a cost and customer centric approach

• Excellent understanding of how a supply chain operates, ideally with a deeper understanding of warehouse operating processes and impact a fulfilment operation has on customer success

• Good knowledge of trends and market intelligence in the area of transportation, is able to apply the knowledge to goals and targets for the team

• Good financial competence and understanding of financial impact of transportation on the P&L

• Understanding of cultural differences and importance of leading global, diverse teams to meet the goals

• Very good knowledge of stakeholder management, identifying and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to make things happen

• Accountable for TVH total freight costs (in- and outbound freight) as % of total revenue

• Contributing to a balanced freight reclaim % (in alignment with regional sales responsible)

• On-time delivery service to customers / On-time in full

• Carrier performance measurement 

• Claims / damage rate per carrier, region 

• Co2 per shipment

• Absolute Co2 transport footprint

• Accessorial spend 

• Mode optimization (air, road, sea cargo)

• Validated transport savings vs baseline spent (productivity)

Key previous experiences and proven skills

• University degree (Economics, Logistics, Supply Chain Management) or proven at least 10 years performance in warehousing operations, transportation or supply chain management in a leading position

• 4-6 years working experience in a management position in the field with proven ability to make a difference by positively influencing the business

• Proven successful leadership in a bigger preferably global operating business, performance driven and with proven people development in the team

• Knowledge of labor, customs and compliance laws and experience with working with third-party relations (unions, carrier etc)

• Proven experience and ability to working in a matrix organization

• Experience with changing organizations, transformational projects on a bigger scale
