Team Lead

Part-Time Seasonal | Winter 2026-2027

City Center Rink is located in the heart of downtown Providence between Biltmore Park and Burnside Park. It is part of the Providence Parks system and serves more than 50,000 ice skating and ice bumper car patrons during a typical winter season. The Rink is a premier downtown destination and a community hub for outdoor recreation, events, and public programming.

The City Center Rink is seeking seasonal Team Leads to provide hands-on leadership during public skating, ice bumper car operations, rentals, group visits, parties, and special events. Team Leads work under the direction of the Assistant Manager/Manager on Duty, Programming Supervisors, and Director of Athletic and Event Facilities.
Team Leads are working members of the seasonal staff who help organize daily operations, direct frontline staff, maintain high customer-service and safety standards, and communicate operational concerns to the Manager on Duty.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead staff member for an assigned operating area or shift responsibility under the direction of the Manager on Duty.
  • Help organize Ticket Sellers, Skate Hosts, Ice Bumper Car Hosts, Skate Sharpeners, and other seasonal staff during assigned shifts.
  • Assign or communicate work areas, breaks, rotations, cleaning responsibilities, and operational tasks as directed by management.
  • Monitor staff performance and help ensure employees remain engaged, professional, and in their assigned work areas.
  • Provide coaching and immediate guidance to seasonal staff regarding customer service, facility procedures, safety, and Rink rules.
  • Assist with opening and closing the facility and complete assigned opening, operating, safety, and closing checklists.
  • Support front ticket office, skate rental, ice skating, bumper car, merchandise, group visit, party, and event operations as needed.
  • Assist with Lilypad point-of-sale transactions, cash handling, ticketing, waivers, reservations, and customer questions when assigned.
  • Help maintain organized guest lines and appropriate staffing during high-volume operating periods.
  • Respond to routine customer-service concerns and escalate significant complaints, refunds, staff issues, or unusual situations to the Manager on Duty.
  • Monitor the facility for injuries, unsafe behavior, equipment concerns, maintenance issues, and other hazards and immediately communicate concerns to management.
  • Assist with incident response and documentation as directed by the Manager on Duty.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with staff and management using two-way radios.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for ice bumper cars, public skating programs, group visits, rentals, parties, and special events.
  • Help ensure skate rental areas, ticket areas, operating spaces, equipment, merchandise, and public-facing areas remain clean, organized, stocked, and presentable.
  • Support new employee training, practical skills checks, and continued coaching throughout the season.
  • Model professional conduct, strong attendance, positive customer service, and appropriate workplace communication.
  • Complete other duties related to Rink operations, customer service, safety, and seasonal programming as assigned.

Qualifications and Availability

  • Previous customer-service experience in a high-volume recreation, hospitality, retail, food-and-beverage, admissions, facility, or event environment is strongly preferred.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, shift-lead, or team-lead experience is preferred.
  • Ability to provide clear direction to coworkers while maintaining a positive and professional working environment.
  • Strong communication, reliability, judgment, initiative, and ability to remain calm during busy operating periods.
  • Experience using a point-of-sale system, handling cash, or working in a ticketing or admissions environment is preferred.
  • Ability to learn multiple Rink operating areas and assist wherever staffing or operational needs require.
  • Ice-skating experience is preferred but not required for all Team Lead assignments.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside in winter conditions and remain active throughout the shift.
  • Evening, weekend, school-vacation, and holiday availability is required.
  • Must be available for at least two high-demand holidays and during Providence school vacation periods: December 21, 2026-January 1, 2027 and February 15-19, 2027.
  • The Rink is open on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification is preferred.
