Description
The Company
We are partnering with a financially strong, privately owned international industrial group that acquires and develops specialist businesses in selected niche markets, primarily within technical components and industrial process solutions.
Its entrepreneurial culture combines decentralised leadership with a strong focus on digitalisation, service, sustainability and people development.
The Opportunity
The IT team has developed a centralised Microsoft Azure data warehouse and business intelligence platform using Analysis Services and Power BI. Most group companies are already connected, with the long-term objective of bringing the entire organisation onto the shared platform.
We are looking for a curious and hands-on Data Engineer to strengthen the team in Barcelona. You will work across data integrations, ETL pipelines, data modelling, validation and the continued development of the central data warehouse and BI environment.
Working closely with the Lead Data Engineer and stakeholders across the group, you will help onboard new companies and data sources while improving the performance, reliability and quality of the existing platform.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-to-mid-level engineer with strong data foundations who wants broad technical exposure, international responsibility and room to develop towards architecture and platform improvement.
What You’ll Work On
- Developing, maintaining and improving the central Azure data warehouse and BI platform used across the group.
- Building and adapting integrations and ETL pipelines connecting different business systems and data sources.
- Creating and refining data models, validations and data-quality controls.
- Testing solutions and contributing to improvements in performance, reliability and security.
- Supporting internal users with data onboarding, management and troubleshooting.
- Producing clear technical and operational documentation for pipelines, models and processes.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders, external specialists and consultants to keep delivery structured.
- Contributing to architecture discussions and evaluating relevant technologies and platform improvements.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Approximately 2–4 years of experience in Data Engineering, BI Engineering, ETL development or a related position.
- Strong SQL skills and a practical understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes and data modelling.
- Hands-on exposure to Microsoft Azure and Azure Data Factory, or experience with a transferable Microsoft data-integration environment.
- The ability to test, troubleshoot and document data pipelines and technical processes.
- An understanding of how data platforms connect with business systems and operational requirements.
- Good written and spoken English, with the confidence to collaborate with international stakeholders.
- Based in Barcelona or the surrounding area.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of Python for data processing, automation or integration.
- Experience integrating APIs and working with JSON or tools such as Postman.
- Exposure to Azure Synapse, Azure DevOps, API Management or Analysis Services.
- Familiarity with Power BI and the relationship between backend data models and business reporting.
- Experience integrating or working with ERP systems.
- Exposure to Databricks, Azure Machine Learning or other modern data services.
- Experience using AI or LLM tools to improve day-to-day engineering work.
You do not need to match every desirable technology. Strong fundamentals, curiosity and the ability to learn are more important than experience with every tool listed.
How You Work
- You are curious, proactive and motivated to continue learning.
- You combine attention to detail with an understanding of the wider business need.
- You communicate clearly and can explain data concepts to technical and non-technical colleagues.
- You are structured, organised and comfortable documenting your work.
- You are a humble team player who takes ownership while knowing when to ask for support.
- You enjoy collaborating across different systems, stakeholders and cultures.
Why Join?
- Work on a central data platform supporting more than 200 companies across 35 countries.
- Join a stable, financially strong and growing international organisation.
- Learn from experienced data professionals and gradually expand your architectural responsibilities.
- Gain broad exposure to data integration, modelling, BI and different business systems.
- Enjoy considerable responsibility, variety and the opportunity to shape your work.
- Build an international career within a decentralised and entrepreneurial environment.
