Summary:
The Temporary Accommodation Move On Officer role is critical in helping households transition from temporary accommodation into suitable, settled housing (such as private rented sectors, social housing, or supported living). You will manage a dedicated caseload, address move-on barriers, match households with appropriate properties, and execute the formal discharge of homelessness duties while working to reduce overall stay lengths in temporary housing.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a active caseload of households ready to move on into legally suitable settled accommodation to help the Council fulfill its statutory duties.
- Update housing needs assessments, ensuring rehousing requirements—including affordability, geographical considerations, and specialist care needs—are fully understood and documented.
- Partner with Lettings Negotiators to match households with available properties quickly and avoid vacant stock.
- Guide clients through settled housing routes, including Choice-Based Lettings (bidding, viewings, acceptances) and manage expectations regarding tenancy rights and offer refusals.
- Issue formal statutory documentation, including discharge notifications, offer letters, and refusal decisions, maintaining accurate records.
- Liaise with internal departments (Social Care, Fraud) and external bodies (GPs, specialist support agencies) to coordinate support for vulnerable tenants.
Qualification:
- Relevant professional qualification in Housing, Social Care, Local Government, or equivalent demonstrative experience in a housing options/move-on environment.
Essentials:
- Demonstrated experience managing a housing or homelessness caseload within a local authority or housing association context.
- Strong working knowledge of homelessness legislation, statutory duties, legal suitability criteria, and discharge of duty processes.
- Proven experience supporting vulnerable individuals or families to overcome barriers to rehousing and tenancy sustainment.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams, external partners, and clients facing challenging circumstances.
- Ability to work at pace in a dynamic environment to meet targets and minimize property void times.
Please note:
- You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
- You should have right to work in U.K
- This role requires a Basic DBS
