SUMMARY
The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of powered industrial trucks to move raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods throughout the manufacturing facility while adhering to all safety, quality, and operational procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Follow all established safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE
- Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely and efficiently
- Load, unload, transport, stack, and stage both raw materials and finished goods using FIFO principles
- Move raw, finished, scrap, and non-prime materials to designated locations
- Unload liquid materials from tanker trucks into proper storage tanks
- Perform daily inspections and basic preventative maintenance on equipment
- Support shipping and receiving activities, including handling LTL shipments
- Prepare, verify, and reconcile shipping and receiving documentation; report discrepancies
- Maintain inventory accuracy and documentation and assist in monthly inventory counts
- Compare quantity, labeling and address with order to ensure shipments are complete and correct
- Prioritize workload to meet production and customer delivery requirements
- Maintain GMPs, housekeeping and organization standards in the work area
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Must score Silver, Gold, or Platinum level on WorkKeys test
- Minimum 1 year forklift experience preferred
- Forklift certification required or must have the ability to obtain
- Must be able to read, count accurately, do simple math (add, subtract, divide, multiply) and write legibly.
- Must be able to learn quickly and adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Suite and handheld RF scanners
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail and positive attitude. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; use hands, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to stand from 10 to 12 hours per day. The employee must be legally able to drive a motor vehicle. The employee must be able to work around and close to rotating equipment. The employee frequently is required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat, cold, wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and may require the usage of stairs and elevators. The noise level in the work environment is usually high. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, hard hats, etc. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
