Job Summary
The Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and reliability improvement of plant instrumentation, control systems, electrical equipment, and emissions monitoring systems. This position supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a combined-cycle power generation facility by ensuring all plant control, instrumentation, and electrical systems are maintained in accordance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.The IC&E Technician works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Contractor personnel to maintain plant equipment, execute maintenance activities, support outages, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instrumentation & Controls
- Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain instrumentation and control systems throughout the facility.
- Maintain and support Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and related control network infrastructure.
- Perform configuration, testing, tuning, and troubleshooting of:
- Emerson Ovation Control Systems
- GE Mark VIe Control Systems
- Allen-Bradley and other PLC Systems
- Calibrate and maintain:
- Pressure transmitters
- Temperature instruments
- Flow instrumentation
- Level instrumentation
- Vibration monitoring equipment
- Analytical equipment
- Control valves and actuators
- Support turbine control system maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Perform loop checks, functional testing, and startup verification activities.
- Analyze equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and availability.
Electrical Systems
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and test plant electrical equipment, including:
- Motors
- Motor control centers (MCCs)
- Switchgear
- Breakers
- Transformers
- Battery systems
- UPS systems
- Protective relaying systems
- Perform electrical fault investigation and root-cause analysis.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical equipment.
- Read and interpret:
- One-line diagrams
- Wiring schematics
- Control drawings
- Electrical construction drawings
- Assist with equipment commissioning and acceptance testing.
- Support work on medium-voltage systems up to 4160V.
- Experience with high-voltage transmission and substation equipment is preferred.
Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS)
- Maintain Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) in compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements.
- Perform:
- Calibrations
- Linearity testing
- Relative accuracy testing support
- Analyzer maintenance
- Data validation activities
- Troubleshoot emissions monitoring equipment and associated control systems.
- Maintain documentation supporting environmental compliance.
Reliability & Maintenance
- Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Identify equipment deficiencies and initiate corrective actions.
- Develop and implement reliability improvements.
- Participate in outage planning, execution, and post-outage reviews.
- Support root-cause failure analysis investigations.
- Assist in equipment startup and return-to-service activities following maintenance.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors during maintenance and outage activities.
Documentation & Work Management
- Utilize the site Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), such as Maximo and MS Office products like Excel Word and SharePoint.
- Create work orders
- Document completed work
- Track materials
- Record labor and equipment history
- Maintain and update:
- Instrument indexes
- Electrical drawings
- Control system documentation
- P&IDs
- Panel schedules
- Develop and maintain maintenance procedures and job plans.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company, environmental, health, and safety policies.
- Support and actively participate in:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Electrical Safe Work Practices
- Arc Flash Program requirements
- Confined Space requirements
- Plant safety initiatives
- Maintain compliance with NERC, OSHA, environmental, and company standards as applicable.
- Participate in emergency response activities when required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- 4-6 years of industrial maintenance experience in instrumentation, controls, or electrical systems, preferably in power generation, refineries, chemical plants, or heavy industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting industrial control systems and electrical equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and control logic documentation.
- Proficiency using test equipment such as:
- Multimeters
- Meggers
- Process calibrators
- Loop calibrators

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Industrial Controls, or a related technical field preferred.
- Combined-cycle power plant experience.
- Experience with:
- Emerson Ovation DCS
- GE Mark VIe
- Allen-Bradley and other PLC platforms
- CEMS maintenance and environmental compliance experience.
- Medium-voltage electrical maintenance experience.
- Predictive maintenance technologies experience.
- NERC-regulated facility experience.
- Electrical licensing or technical certifications preferred.
Position can be filled at a level I, II, III or IV depending on skill and experience.
