Description

The Chief Theatre Technician provides discipline-specific leadership (Stage & Rigging, Lighting, Audio or AV-IT) and contributes to the continuous enhancement of technical standards, safety culture and operational excellence across the Performing Arts facilities.
You will be responsible for:
- preparing and managing duty rosters for assigned technicians, casuals and show operators;
- coordinating and leading discipline-specific technical teams to deliver production requirements during move-in, rehearsals, performances and move-out;
- supervising and actively participating in setup, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting within the assigned discipline
- providing Technical and Productions Team (T&P) Duty In-Charge support as assigned;
- assuming duty leadership when required and providing cross-venue technical support;
- exercising immediate stop-work authority on safety grounds and escalating issues in accordance with established safety procedures;
- implementing and monitoring safe systems of work in compliance with organisational policies, procedures and statutory regulations;
- supporting safety audits, inspections and emergency preparedness activities;
- supporting the implementation of preventive maintenance programmes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) developed by the Technical Manager;
- supervising the safe storage, operational readiness and lifecycle care of technical equipment within the assigned discipline;
- contributing to the ongoing development and optimisation of technical workflows, safety practices and operational efficiency;
- providing practical feedback to support continuous improvement initiatives and venue development projects;
- mentoring and guiding technicians within the assigned discipline to enhance technical capability, consistency and professional standards;
- supporting discipline-specific training delivery as identified by the Technical Manager; and
- performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by the Authority.
You should:
- possess at least 5 subjects at Level 2 / Grade E or above in the HKDSE / HKCEE or equivalent academic qualification;
- have a minimum of 8 years’ technical experience in theatre with demonstrable experience in production creation, realisation and running productions and performances, operation and maintenance of theatrical equipment and infrastructure; OR
- possess at least an accredited advanced diploma in Technical Arts or equivalent technical qualification from a recognised tertiary education with a minimum of 4 years’ relevant working experience in theatre;
- demonstrate strong hands-on expertise in Stage & Rigging, Lighting, Audio or AV-IT systems;
- demonstrate strong troubleshooting ability and sound technical judgement during live events;
- possess strong leadership qualities with the ability to guide teams while working within established reporting structures;• have good knowledge of interpreting technical drawings, specifications and design documentation;
- show strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team, and demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in problem solving; and
- have good knowledge of creating and interpreting of technical drawings, specifications and design documentation;
- be proficient in written and spoken English and Chinese;
- be willing to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays; and
- possession of relevant certifications such as Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card), First Aid Certificate, Dante Certificate, or IPAF licence would be an advantage.
