About the Opportunity
Our client, a growing independent insurance brokerage, is seeking an experienced Senior Employee Benefits Account Manager to join its expanding Client Management team. This individual will play a key role in delivering exceptional service to employer clients by serving as a trusted advisor on employee benefits strategy, cost containment, plan optimization, and day-to-day account management.
Working closely with Benefits Consultants and internal team members, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of clients ranging from 50 to 5,000 enrolled lives, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction while driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with assigned clients.
- Serve as the primary service lead, ensuring exceptional client support and proactive communication.
- Oversee enrollment, eligibility, billing coordination, claims resolution, appeals, financial analysis, and contract review.
- Partner with Benefits Consultants to develop renewal strategies and present recommendations to clients.
- Prepare Requests for Proposal (RFPs), market benefit programs, evaluate carrier proposals, and provide financial comparisons.
- Recommend additional products and value-added services based on client needs.
- Advise clients on compliance matters including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ACA, Form 5500 filings, and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage client timelines, compliance calendars, and ongoing service activities.
- Analyze claims experience, utilization trends, stop-loss performance, and high-cost claimants while recommending cost containment strategies.
- Act as a liaison between clients and third-party vendors including TPAs, PBMs, care management vendors, benefits administration platforms, and carrier partners.
- Maintain accurate documentation and client records within agency management systems.
- Participate in continuing education to stay current on industry trends, products, and regulations.
- Support additional projects and responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Active Life, Accident & Health insurance license.
- 10+ years of employee benefits account management experience with demonstrated ownership of client relationships.
- Strong understanding of contribution modeling, plan design, and funding strategies.
- Experience performing financial analysis for self-funded and alternative funding arrangements.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with benefits administration and HRIS platforms such as Employee Navigator, ADP, Paychex, Rippling, BSwift, PlanSource, or UKG preferred.
- Experience with agency management systems such as BrokerageBuilder is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of self-funded health plans; PEO experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of employee benefits regulations, including ERISA, COBRA, ACA, and related compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with insurance markets and regulations within Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey is preferred.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
